BAZ BAMIGBOYE: Bond 25 script is being endlessly re-written by director Cary Joji Fukunaga, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and even 007 Daniel Craig

The joke on the Bond 25 set is the script’s under wraps. And the response is: ‘What script?’

The screenplay for the untitled film is being endlessly re-written by a committee consisting of director Cary Joji Fukunaga, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and 007 himself, Daniel Craig.

‘She’s writing a re-write of a re-write,’ a film-making source told me of Waller-Bridge’s recent involvement in the project.

‘Daniel’s writing. Cary’s writing. The crew reckon they’re working on a well-polished s*** show.

‘They have an outline of plot, but dialogue is all last-minute. It’s not the way to make a movie. I would imagine they’ll sort it out in the cutting room. That’s where most movies get made anyway. But you’d think the Bond lot would be more together.’
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7012949/BAZ-BAMIGBOYE-Bond-25-script-endlessly-written.html

Consider the source, but not good if true.

It’s almost always true. Sometimes results are good, sometimes not.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again ... this is almost ALWAYS the process for making a Bond movie. About 14-15 years ago I went on my first deep dive, trying to watch all of the films (I actually had not seen all of them) plus the extras on the DVDs. A few I had to watch on VHS, so I didn’t get all of the “making of” documentaries, but I swear virtually EVERY one I did watch indicated that NO Bond film ever had a fully formed plan. One of the producers would see a beautiful woman and “she needs to be a Bond girl, lets make a movie!” OR one of them would go on vacation and see an exotic location, “let’s make a movie!” or a stunt coordinator would come up with an outrageous new stunt, “lets make a movie!”

I don’t recall any of them saying “we wanted to tell this story” and then going through a full and complete pre-production.

I’m probably wrong.

They mainly had the Ian Fleming stories to build off of and to just change locals and characters to suit the zeitgeist. It was towards the end of Moore where they were just taking titles or mixing multiple stories together until they had no more source material and created premises as well.

Most of the time this isn't good. But then you have films like Harrison Ford's The Fugitive, where the script was literally being written as the shoot was going on, and that turned out well. But as averages go, it's not a good sign.

Re: Bond 25 (2020, D: Fukunaga) -- News, rumors, etc.

Production on the latest Bond film has been delayed again, after star Daniel Craig injured his ankle while filming an action sequence in Jamaica.

According to the Sun, Craig slipped and fell while running, and the subsequent ankle injury resulted in him being flown to the US for treatment. Filming scheduled to take place at Pinewood studios in London has been postponed.

This is not Craig’s first injury on a Bond set: in 2006 he had two teeth knocked out while making Casino Royale, lost a fingertip on Quantum of Solace in 2008, and hurt his knee in 2015 during the shoot for Spectre.

The setback is the latest of a string of delays to Craig’s fifth – and reportedly final – outing as Bond. In 2018, director Danny Boyle unexpectedly dropped out due to “creative differences” and was replaced by Cary Fukunaga. A comprehensive script overhaul has seen a string of writers work on the project, including veteran Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, Paul Haggis, Scott Z Burns and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

It is not thought that Craig’s injury will affect the film’s opening date. Originally scheduled for release in November 2019, the film is now due to premiere in April 2020.

Just delay it to Nov. 2020. The April 2020 release date seems odd for a Bond movie, anyway.

Yeah, who would have thought that this was the production Fukunaga would want to stick with?

Re: Bond 25 (2020, D: Fukunaga) -- News, rumors, etc.

Rumor:

Production had problems when Craig suffered an ankle injury, and now it seems that - when he can return to filming - Malek will be unavailable to join him. The Oscar-winning Bohemian Rhapsody star is playing the movie’s antagonist, and arguably caused the most excitement among fans back when the cast list was revealed. But it seems filming will be going on for longer than previously expected so the schedules of the two heavyweights can be aligned.

A James Bond source told The Sun: “Filming was supposed to finish in September but the cast and crew have been told it’s been pushed back to late October, possible early November due to Daniel’s injury and the set explosion.

“But they still need to find a time for Daniel and Rami to film together.

“You can’t have a Bond film where 007 doesn’t come face to face with the villain so it’s a complete nightmare logistically.”

They added: “They are looking at the whole schedule again now and doing everything they can to make it work, but production is going to have to over-run even further now.”

This is the latest issue for the troubled project, which hit headlines for the wrong reasons last week when bosses had to confirm a small explosion on set.

They wrote on the @007 Twitter feed: “During the filming of a controlled explosion on the set of Bond 25 today at Pinewood Studios, damage was caused to the exterior of the 007 Stage.

“There were no injuries on set, however one crew member outside the stage has sustained a minor injury.”

The script has also had trouble, with multiple writers being brought in to work on it - most recently Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

And the issues go back even further: last year the film’s then-director, Danny Boyle, stepped down due to creative differences, and was replaced by Cary Joji Fukunaga.

This resulted in the release date being shifted right back to April 2020, whereas it was previously slated to come out on Valentine’s Day.

Bond 25 - still untitled - is believed to be Craig’s fifth and final film as the iconic spy.

James Bond 25 is out on April 8, 2020.

What a mess. I can't remember a Bond movie with this much trouble in the production.

Watch it turn out to be great anyway. Who knows? But they are having more trouble getting this thing written and filmed than any previous Bond movie.

Well, it's not rare for troubled productions to wind up great. But it's a crap shoot regardless...you just never know.

Yeah, Casablanca had more than it's share of problems in the production (including a script that was being rewritten while they were filming it), but I don't expect this to turn out that well.

GAMES BOND Mutiny on James Bond movie set as director skips filming to play PlayStation — then demands crew work overtime

American filmmaker Cary Fukunaga, 40, was “several hours” late to a scheduled slot due to his particularly intense video games session. A large number of crew were waiting on location when he eventually turned up three hours after his anticipated arrival time.

It meant the film, already massively delayed because of a series of disagreements and a serious injury to leading man Daniel Craig, fell behind schedule even further.

And to make up for lost time Cary’s senior production staff then told the disgruntled crew they would be required to work over the weekend, which included Father’s Day — which many refused to do.

A Bond source said: “There is real mutiny right now on the set. It’s bad enough that Cary was so late for filming and held everyone up, but then for the crew to be asked to work extra hours to cover it was just the final straw.

"He turned up three hours late which p***ed everyone off. There was a big bust up because they’re so behind. Many said they were not willing to give up their Father’s Day in return for this film. It’s just doomed.”

It’s the latest in a long line of setbacks the still unnamed film has suffered.

Earlier this month The Sun revealed how the cursed new 007 flick was placed in total lockdown today after three huge explosions ripped through the set and left one member of crew in hospital.
And just weeks ago frontman Daniel, 51, tweaked ankle ligaments when he slipped over as filming wrapped in Jamaica causing filming to be cancelled.

So outlandish that a director would be late because he was playing video games, it might be true

Oh come on, would you rather the director be late because he is killing hookers on Grand Theft Auto or sexually assaulting an actress in his hotel room? Get you priorities straight people.

Trainwreck.

I love Bond. I've been a fan since 1977. This is the most negative I've felt about a Bond movie in production ever. They haven't ever had this level of chaos during production before.

Good grief. This is a mess

Watch it turn out to be the best Bond movie ever ...

I like Cary Fukunaga but I've been disappointed with the franchise since Craig became Bond and the movies stopped being fun.
