The really loud sounds and screaming pissed me off. And now that I have been made aware of the time travel or whatever that took place, I am even more irritated. The movie was ok at best, but those things really bring it down.

Didn't really care for this one too much. They tried to recapture the magic of the first one, but I don't think you really can.

Saw this Friday evening. Annoying characters only make you root for the villains moreso in horror movies. It's extremely frustrating that you don't even get to know the villain. My guess is that
Spoiler:
the forest is some kind of form of purgatory for all who enter. This makes it just another cursed path story. Kind of lame.

Well, I kind of enjoyed this, but mainly because it only cost me $3. If I had paid full price for it, I'd be upset. The last 30 mins or so were definitely suspenseful. There's no good payoff at the end, but I kind of expected that. At least we got more in the scary house than we did in the first one.

So this sounds like a major letdown after Wingard's last two features?

It is a letdown any way you look at it. If you are comparing it to his previous work, then it is even more of a let down.

The film was in a tough spot. It wasn't enough of a Wingard/Barrett film for Wingard/Barrett fans and not different enough for the hardcore fans of the original to buy in.

Looks like disappointing numbers for the film so far:

Not a lot of fans here, but it seems it had general positive reviews in genre websites.

I liked it. Watched it tonight. Theater was half empty, last row was just by myself. Yeah, it plays similar to the original movie, and like any traditional horror movie our heroes are "annoying". The first half has just sprinkles of good parts. The 20-30 minutes are good. When you can hear complete silence and see everyone tense in the theater, you know that the movie works.

I noted the "time travel" or whatever, but this is a movie that you have to rewatch at home and pause in some scenes. There are a lot of "hidden" stuff during the whole movie.

I'm not sure why people are hating on this flick - it's a solid horror movie and very creepy. Wingard was obviously a giant fan of the original and while many people say he just copied the original.....that's kind of the point to an extent - he did add a lot of new elements as well and expanded on the lore - the link jacob b provided has even more cool detail.

Jacob b - thanks for that link and to anyone who hasn't seen the flick yet but wants to, stay far away from it.

As for the link
Spoiler:
I kind of thought it was aliens because of the light but I'm not so sure about that..even though some things do add up, what occurs in the film is more supernatural then anything - let's not forget about the apparition that appeared in the house

Definitely a buy for me - I loved this movie.

EDIT: Here is another excellent link that
Spoiler:
explains how Lane is the one who killed the original 3 from the first film

thought this was genuinely uninspired and unoriginal and Wingard didn't leave an original mark on it whatsoever.

Wow, I was going through this thread reading opinions because I was trying to decide if I should watch this one but apparently I already did lol.
I guess the fact that I do not remember it AT ALL says a lot.

Maybe you were abducted by the aliens and your memory of seeing this movie has been erased.
