Interview With The Vampire (Remake)

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE / 4 MAY 2016
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE: NEW MUTANTS DIRECTOR DEVELOPING REMAKE

No word for when it's expected to hit theaters.

BY NICOLE CARPENTER New Mutants director Josh Boone is developing a new film adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, Boone announced.

Jill Killington—who wrote 2016's All We Had with Boone—will serve as co-writer. As reported in 2014, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (The Amazing Spider-Man, Star Trek) will produce, with Bobby Cohen (The Mummy, Now You See Me) as executive producer.

Rice has been publishing the Vampire series since 1976, with the most recent title having been released in 2014. Interview with the Vampire—which was adapted to film in 1994—centers on the lives of vampires Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt with the twelve-year-old girl turned into their vampire daughter.

Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise starred in the original film. Cruise is currently attached to another monster movie, which will also be produced by Kurtzman—Universal's The Mummy.

Boone is also working on 20th Century Fox's New Mutants. Boone turned the second draft of the New Mutants script back in April.

Anne Rice Cinematic Universe?

Rice's Vampire Chronicles, Mayfair Witches, and Mummy novels interconnect with each other.

Neil Jordan's film wasn't all that good. I don't care about the possibility of a remake. If anything, I'd like to see a stand-alone adaptation of Memnoch the Devil.

I thought the original is really good. And not dated at all. Reboot not necessary. Get the original talent back together and adapt another Vampire Chronicles book.

It's almost a quarter century later. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have aged well, but not immortal vampire well.

Love the original movie, even if Brad Pitt didn't. I say nope to this remake.

As someone that had read the novels before the movie was made, I liked Cruise and Pitt in IWTV.

A remake would almost definitely be made with the intention of adapting the entire related series of books if possible.

Take it to serialized television, where the nuances of this measure of storytelling belong.

Also: Orci and Kurtzman? Oy vey iz mir...

You are the first person i have ever heard say this. I think the movie was rather excellent. Superb cast, the fact that Pitt seemed to have a terrible time only added to the character, and Neil Jordans direction and the cinematography were superb. I would loved to have seen the series continue with the same players...but alas.

I am open to a remake, but only by quality people. This does not say quality to me.

Writer-director Josh Boone tweeted the below photo of Jared Leto with the caption “Lestat - there can be only one. #JaredLeto.”

I hated the idea before I got to the bit about Orci and Kurtzman being involved.

I saw it opening night with a group. None of us liked it; about half of us had read the books. I think I've seen it once or twice since, but it hasn't done anything to improve my opinion on it. Maybe I should give it another go.

I did like the look, feel, atmosphere, and general tone of the movie. I just didn't think it added up to much

Still... Orci and Kurtzman? Mein lieber gott...
