Tommyknockers was the same way. He wasted a lot of pages giving disposable characters a rich and detailed background right before he killed them, it was like Who cares??? Found myself skipping over large portions of text because I knew what was coming and I just wanted to get to the killing. I'll never read that book again, it was just painful.

Tommyknockers was written at the height of Stephen King's drug use. Definitely sloppy, the only book of his I almost didn't finish.

So there really still moving forward with this? The book doesn't warrant enough material for a full length film - they would definitely have to add some stuff (and honestly, it couldn't make it any worse).
Hope they leave out one of the things that happens at the end as well
That was a little too much.

Zahn McClarnon is in talks to join Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson in Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the Stephen King novel “Doctor Sleep,” the sequel to the horror classic “The Shining.”
McGregor stars as the adult version of Danny Torrance, while Ferguson plays Rose the Hat. Sources say McClarnon would portray Crow Daddy, the right-hand man of Ferguson’s character.

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros is setting Carl Lumbly to play Dick Halloran and Alex Essoe to play Wendy Torrance in Doctor Sleep, the continuation of the storyline from The Shining. Those are the roles that Scatman Crothers and Shelley Duvall played in the Stanley Kubrick-directed original, if you are keeping score at home.

Looks great! I reread "The Shining" and then went right into "Doctor Sleep" and really enjoyed them back to back. Looks like this has all kinds of connections to the Kubrick movie which is fun.

Looks good. The Shining is one of my favorite horror films so I’m really looking forward to this!
Loved the original music at the end of the trailer.

I wasn't aware this was so closely connected to The Shining film.
A few of Flanagan's past movies are enough to make me watch whatever he does next.

I was shocked (and delighted) to see how much this movie is leaning into being a sequel to the Kubrick film instead of being just a straight adaption of the book.
Entertainment Weekly put up an article earlier that said this is what Flanagan wanted from the start and he wouldn't have done the movie if it wasn't approved. Apparently King was really open to it, surprisingly, and gave it his blessing.
Also, Flanagan said the finished film has been screened for both King and Kubrick's estate, and both were very pleased with it.
"Doctor Sleep director had to convince Stephen King that the film should be in the same universe as Kubrick's The Shining."

They had to put it in the Shining universe because there isn't enough material in Doctor Sleep to warrant it's own full movie. But yeah, the book is the sequel to the shining, not sure why people are so surprised by that. As expected, they changed a lot (and that's saying a lot from watching a brief trailer) but make no mistake, they're still sticking to the novel somewhat strong from the little we got to see. Gonna be interesting to see how this comes out.

Good timing with Ready Player One last year reminding a slew of people about the original.
