Isn't she married to Ryan Reynolds? This sounds like Buried in the ocean.

Saw it last night. A good, fun flick with some tension and suspense. I thought Lively was pretty good and the shark effects weren't bad at all. 3.75/5

I don't see how you can make a full length movie out of one character and one animal and her trying to cross a short distance. That's a short story, not a feature film. I suspect a lot of stalling and filler.
But yeah, Blake in a bikini is always win.

They made a movie about a guy with his arm caught under a boulder, and it got nominated for Best Picture. So I dunno, everything is doable.

The director did a good job at making the beach, rocks etc seem just far enough to be dangerous. There's also a seagull who's got a pretty big role, so there's that.

They made a movie about a guy stranded on an island and he had a ball hang with.

Or a movie about three people stuck on a chairlift. Which seems very similar to the concept of this movie.

Open Water and The Reef were similar shark movies where the protagonists were stuck in one location for the bulk of the film.

ok .. so I was wrong on my above theory ... so kudos to the marketing department for not spoiling the film via the trailer.
That said, I think they overused the extended surfing scenes. Did we really need all the regular music above water/water sounds below? Once or twice would have been fine. We get it .. she's surfing.
Other than that, it was enjoyable if not a bit slow moving. While I think Lively isn't bad to look at, they could have removed have of the shots of her ass and the movie would not have changed at all. 3/5

Just saw it and thought it was great. Beautifully filmed with great tension. Much better than ID4: 2

Saw this today. I really enjoyed Blake Lively's performance as well as how campy it got in certain sections of the film.
I didn't like all the graphic overlays, made the film look a bit cheap (even though it was filmed beautifully). Also the script is pretty meh.

I'm deathly afraid of great white sharks and love horror movies, so this one rang a lot of my bells. Loved it.
The shark effects were kind of all over the place though. In some shots it looked amazing, and in others, it's pretty questionable. But it almost adds to the aforementioned camp, I guess.
I hope this is successful enough to bring on more killer shark movies. It feels like it's been too long since we've had a really good one.

My god, was this movie stupid.
Watching Blake in a bikini for 80 minutes aside, the story was preposterously bad, the overuse of slow-mo was incredibly annoying, the stupid voiceover explaining what we can see she's doing pandered to the "I'm not paying attention" crowd, story elements were horrid, the family crap was cloying...
I mean, that shark was a fucking MONSTER and you're telling me it gave her leg a wound that small? Instead, they should have had the shark attack her board, giving her time to break free and swim away. During her climb up the rock, the fire coral gouges her deeply. That's an infinitely better set-up than the writers provided.
