I don't want to see a prequel... you'd have to recast everyone and that just throws it all off.
I don't want to see a sequel, either. I just don't feel like there's any more to the story, honestly.

Heat 2: Slightly Warmer
I’ll read the new book but all also wait for a price drop. I prefer reading paperbacks anyway.

Heat 2 (D: Mann)
Go back to the well I guess. Adapted from the novel by Mann.

Thief could also be a precursor to Heat. LA setting of course, the sophisticated equipment used to rob. all the moves Caan makes (going into Robert Prosky's home and taking him out the way he did) seems like Neil McCauley might have used as well.

Not sure if this deserves a new thread, but I'll post it here (assuming he's talking about a film and not the novel):

Must be referring to the book. No way the movie is "Coming Soon", though it is certainly coming. Wonder if Pacino will be back.

The movie is nowhere near ready to even start filming. I think it's going to be at least 2-3 years minimum.

Sounds like the Heat book is part of a larger 3 book deal. And Mann intends on making them into films.

I had a Barnes and Noble gift card so I ended up picking up Heat 2 this morning.
I’m not entirely sure how Mann plans to film this

We'll see if this actually comes to fruition... and with Pacino/Driver. Austin Butler has been rumored for the young Kilmer role.

After seeing Top Gun Maverick, I figured Glen Powell was a no-brainer for the Kilmer part.

Reading this magnum opus book Heat 2 now. Totally filmable from a prequel/sequel perspective.
Butler would be a PERFECT young Val. Perfect.

EXCLUSIVE: It’s been nearly three decades since Michael Mann’s crime classic Heat hit theaters via Warner Bros, and it now feels like Mann and the studio are finally feeling more heat around the corner for a sequel. While rumors have been swirling for weeks, Deadline is hearing that Warner Bros is now in negotiations to come on to develop Heat 2, a sequel to the 1995 classic that Mann recently turned into a novel. The book, published in August, became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller.
On top of Warner Bros. in talks to return, insiders add that Adam Driver, who recently starred in Mann’s Ferrari, is in discussions with Mann to play young Neil McCauley in the movie.
Warner Bros and reps for Mann had no comment.
Sources say WB is in negotiations to fund the development of the project, and as of right now no partner is involved. Arnon Milchan’s New Regency co-financed the first film and insiders add if and when the project is in a good place to move forward, they would be given opportunity to co-finance production. As of right now, Mann is the guiding force with moving this project forward and things are headed in the right direction for it to find a home.
