I saw the sign, but don't know what it means in Abrams world. And about Cooper, is he just a friend, doing a favor?

Re: 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) - S: Goodman, Winstead, Gallagher

Spoiler:
Really liked the movie but do not see any connection to Cloverfield at all. They never mentioned the previous monster attack yet the movie would seem to take place around 2014, given the 7-15 parking sticker. I'm not sure if that lessens the movie at all for me?

I thought of the ending to Evolution when Michelle killed the alien/ship thing. Ha

Not sure what possible favor that would be, any no name actor would have agreed to do that part for free. Probably just a friendship. Unless by some very remote circumstances that character's part happens to expand in the future and he parlays that into a physical part, like Paul Bettany.

He was probably in studio that was handling sound for another project and they let him do it for the film.

Any idea if the cellphone company/provider has any meaning? BRG or something like that, instead of At&T or Verizon or one of those. Or is that a known company?

Re: 10 Cloverfield Lane (Trachtenberg, 2016) The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

Bradley Cooper was on Alias on and off for years and was probably in the neighborhood when JJ and co were finishing that part. More of a friendship thing most likely. Probably filmed at the same lot they're doing Guardians 2 voice work.

Also, if you liked this, check out Faults (2014) if you haven't. Another pretty solid "chamber piece" starring Winstead (written/directed by her husband) and it's available on Netflix. She is absolutely awesome as these kinds of flicks.

M. Night Shyamalan ghostwrote and ghostdirected this flick. Dan Trachtenberg is Shambo.

If his name was advertised it would have a 21% on RT and a 5.9 on IMDB.

If M Night Shyamalan ghost wrote and directed 10 Cloverfield Lane, someone must have ghost wrote and directed every M Night Shyamalan film since Unbreakable since thats the last time he made a film anywhere near as good as 10 Cloverfield Lane.

There was no actual twist on this one, so that analogy doesn't work.

mild spoiler:

Spoiler:

One of the biggest surprises for me was the scene where she gets the keys and Goodman shouts to dont open that door which was in the trailer. I was expecting that to be at the end of the movie, but we learn early on that the world is dangerous outside and she can't just open the door. That turned the movie totally unpredictable and more thrilling for me.

Caught an early show today and thought it was awesome. Tense movie and Goodman and Winstead were fantastic. I had to pee really bad towards the end, but didn't want to miss anything. I'm glad I held it in.

So was the scene with MEW in the vent a callback to the first Die Hard film, since she did play an older Lucy McClane?

Re: 10 Cloverfield Lane (Trachtenberg, 2016) The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

Saw it Monday. Really liked it. Very intense with great performances. The beginning was a great example of "show don't tell" in creating Michelle's character. John Goodman was basically playing what a real life Walter Sobchack would be; a scary mother fucker. I actually thought of the whole "Mark it zero!" scene when they were playing the game. In terms of a connection to the other movie:

Spoiler:
It's possible the alien from the first one was an initial assault weapon. The alien ship in this one dropped a pod into the field similar to the little object we see landing in the ocean in the final scene of the first movie. Both cases proved to be beasts, though one much larger than the latter . I think that if they do a true follow up to this movie with Michelle meeting up with the resistance, we'll get more back story with an explanation of the events in New York, which probably happened a few years prior.

Not that it needs these explanations in any way, but food for thought.

Aside from a few fictional products in the shared movie universe,
Spoiler:
Goodman's character worked for the satellite company that was responsible for waking up the monster in the first movie (the one that dropped into the sea at the end of the film).

C'mon. We all can't be logical in finding out that there might be shit revealed to us in a review thread. You're smarter than that. You know most of us can't think logically.

Not that I give a fuck about spoilers in a review thread. I go in a review thread... you know shit is going to be revealed.

The title of the thread says SPOILERS and the first post says spoilers within.

If it says SPOILERS in the title you don't have to worry about using the spoiler tags, nobody is going to come in here not expecting to find out Winstead's character is a ghost and she didn't survive the car wreck. Or that John Goodman turns out being her caseworker Juno and this entire movie is set to the soothing sounds of Slim Whitman's Indian Love Call. My argument was that Review threads should use Spoiler Tags, but since this one is already marked SPOILERS it makes it pointless to use em.

I saw this earlier today. I was surprised and I liked it. Goodman's performance was really good.
