Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

That trailer for The Thing is very much inspired by the short trailer for Alien that had the egg opening and pretty much nothing else.

The trailer for Maximum Overdrive always makes me laugh. King might be a great writer and creator of stories, but one thing he is not is a great director. That movie was horrible and such a boring story as well.

Didn't see it mentioned yet, but the stinger in Twister (where the tractor wheel smashes into the windshield) wasn't in the movie.

I liked it when the MTV Movie Awards criticized that shot in their parody (2:10 mark):

Sony did an "April Fools joke" today advertising the Sony Proton Pack. Seems like an obvious tie-in to the new Ghostbusters movie:

Deadpool just did an exclusive footage ad for the home video release, a parody of Viagra style ads, #Deadpole:

Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

Just found this series of promos for The Nice Guys of Gosling and Crowe, as themselves, in couple's counseling.

First, a promo for the promos:

5 part promo series:

Also, Joel Silver chews out Crowe and Gosling during a press junket:

Judging by the actual trailer, those promo clips look much better than the movie. Why didn't they just turn these things into a movie?

I personally think the red-band trailer for The Nice Guys was pretty funny. It is surprising how entertaining the promos were, considering they were probably all shot in a day.

I'm wondering how much is stipulated in the actor's contracts regarding these "extra footage" promos and the like. Like, could they refuse to do any of these, or are they just considered part of the promotion of the film they have to do, like appearing on talk shows or doing press junkets?

Just saw this trailer where Seth Rogen introduces his animated film Sausage Party with a Walt Disneyesque spoof:

Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

Went to the theater a while back, and there was an Angry Birds / Cinema chain promo that ran before the movie. Looks like they've done ones for a few chains.

Angry Birds - Regal Cinemas

Angry Birds - Cinemark

Angry Birds - AMC

Looking those up, it looks like The Angry Birds movie also did a series of promos featuring "the hatchlings"

The Angry Birds Movie - Season's Greetings from the Hatchlings!

The Angry Birds Movie - Happy Easter from the Hatchlings!

The Angry Birds Movie - Happy Mother's Day from the Hatchlings!

I'm pretty sure they would be a part of their contract under promotion, like the press junkets, etc.

Yeah, I'm just wondering if there's a limit to how much the actors have to do to promote the film. Like, total number of hours, or maybe days, they have to dedicate to it.

Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

More ID4:2 promos.

This one posits that Jeff Goldblum and Earth Space Defense director David Levinson aren't the same person.

No live action footage, but Jeff Goldblum narration on Hybrid Alien Technology

Very brief mockumentary on why Will Smith isn't in this movie:

A longer mockumentary detailing the events that took place between the original film and the new movie.

A recruitment add for Earth Space Defense (unique footage starting 24 seconds in)

Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

A few more Sausage Party promos.

First, one where Frank the Frank ask to "Save the Sausage" on the 4th of july because "Grills Kills" :

Then another one called "Food Critics" with live action footage of Seth Rogan asking Edward Norton and Michael Cera what they thought of the film:

Yes, but that was just edited out of the final cut. We're talking about stuff actually made exclusively for the trailer(s).

That's debatable. There's really no place in the finished film where that shot would work, as it'd take out a vehicle.

Both IMDB and TV Tropes describe it as an early SFX test shot created for the film:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Film/Twister
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117998/trivia

So the shot wasn't ever intended to be in the movie, but it also wasn't made specifically for the trailer.

Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

Thor: Ragnarok has a Comic-Con "trailer" that's really just a skit riffing on what Thor was doing during the events of Captain America: Civil War:

Re: Movies that shot scenes specifically for the trailers?

From one of my favorite series of trailers, this particular one is almost all exclusively shot for the trailer:
