Deadpool 2: Electric Boogaloo - blah blah blah

'Deadpool' Sequel Already in the Works

More merc with a mouth.
Fox is betting that audiences will not get a load of Deadpool when the movie opens this weekend but will immediately want more, which is why the studio is already working on a sequel.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, are writing the script for a follow-up, which has already been greenlighted, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The fact that a sequel is in the works should not be a surprise at this point. Deadpool is tracking to open to at least $65 million over the upcoming four-day holiday weekend, with some estimates pointing north of $70 million.

Tim Miller directed Deadpool and although is he has not signed on to helm the sequel, Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together.

Reese, Wernick and Miller, as well as star Ryan Reynolds, have fought an uphill battle within the studio system to get the movie made, forging themselves into a compact unit. Wernick and Reese, who also acted as executive producers on the movie, remained on board throughout the development and production, a rarity in a system that interchanges scribes at high rates.

Deadpool is an R-rated action comedy based on an irreverent Marvel Comics character who is part of the universe of X-Men heroes, to which Fox has the license.

Reese and Wernick’s other credits include Zombieland and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The duo is repped by WME and Hansen Jacobson.

From Dark Horizons:

Mostly ignored in the first film, it looks like the upcoming sequel to "Deadpool" could incorporate a clearer nod to the comedic character's pansexuality.

Variety has spoken with both writer Rhett Reese and actor Ryan Reynolds who indicate that they are open to exploring the character's flexible sexuality - a well-known element of the character in the comics - in the sequels.

Asked about the possibility of the character getting an onscreen male love interest or fling, Reynolds says: "I love that about Deadpool. I love that he can break any boundary. In the future, I hope we get to do that more. I certainly wouldn't be the guy standing in the way of that. That would be great."

In the first film a few references are made to it, from several amusing moments in a sex montage to a joke at a certain clawed mutant's expense, but otherwise it essentially shows the hero in a monogamous relationship with Morena Baccarin's character.

Speaking about the character's sexuality, Reese says: "We knew that was part of the comics. We wanted to honor that in the movie. But we did it in subtle ways. There's veiled references to it in this film. It's in the DNA of the character."

The trade does go on to say that doing so would still be a risk even in this day and age, Hollywood blockbusters remain very recalcitrant to anchor larger budget films around queer characters - something that has continued in recent years thanks to the rising importance of international box-office in some markets where attitudes are less tolerant of homosexuality.

I wouldn't have a problem with it since it is true to the comics. It seems like the cast and crew have knocked the first film out of the park so I trust whatever they do with the character going forward.

The first movie hasn't even come out yet and people are already praising the sequel?

The first Deadpool did out perform The Force Awakens to become the number one US box office film of all time. A sequel was inevitable.

Yes, for the same reason the new Ghostbusters is the worst movie ever even without a trailer.

we should use this as reviews thread for D2 since it won't get any action until release...

I don't see anyone saying that. I meant by my statement that it seems like the first film is going to do well based off of all the positive reviews that its received so far.

^It wasn't directed at you. Along with the OP article, even my subscription-page on youtube got flooded by more Deadpool-sequel delirium than it's previous movie:
Spoiler:

10:31 is really where my gripe is centered at:

Then again, after the Fantastic Four debacle, you can't blame Fox for losing their shit with a well-received comic book movie!

Hopefully Fox doesn't pull this shit with the sequel. Producers had to cut $7 million from the movie's budget at the last minute: http://io9.gizmodo.com/the-makers-of...the-1758147495

They're going to beat us over the head with dead pool in film just like they have in comics to the point of not giving a fuck.

That said - no cable = no care.

Spoiler related to the first movie.
Spoiler:
The after credit scene pretty much confirms that.

I was kinda disappointed by that after credit. Better to show and not tell.. wait, this is deadpool, so he's just going to fourth wall it, duh.

I saw that.

I was pretty game for him around Avatar's release. He's kind of old now but.... shit. He might be the perfect straight man guy to work along Reynolds.
