New film, by the director of Blue Ruin. Looks, really good.

I'm surprised there wasn't already a thread for this. I saw it back in September. I loved it. It's very different from Blue Ruin, but an excellent little film in all the right ways. Go see it, especially with a packed audience.

Saw this trailer the other day in front of The Witch.

It definitely caught my attention.

Looks awesome. Seems like a totally different type of role for Patrick Stewart.

Likewise saw it last September, at TIFF. Better than I expected, and I expected it to be pretty good based on Blue Ruin, which I love. I do recall tempering my expectations when ordering the tickets because of Patrick Stewart's presence, which had the potential to be stunt casting but then I remembered what Saulnier did with Eve Plumb in Blue Ruin. He's quite effective at detaching pop culture figures from everything that defines them, and making them quite nasty in the process. The gore quotient in Green Room is pretty high, too.

Blue Ruin was terrific, so I'm definitely in for this, the trailer looks good:

I'd love to go to the San Francisco screening at the Metreon but I don't get off work until 5:30p

For those in Northern California, this is also screening this weekend at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco.

Release week bump. I could have seen a screening on 4/21, but was too lazy to get out to the screening. You have to show up so early to get a decent seat.

I will be catching this sometime over the weekend.

Saw this yesterday. Really enjoyed it. Great cast!

Macon Blair (Blue Ruin) was great in this. His character was so subtle compared to the rest of the cast but he adds so much to every scene he is in.

There was something off about Anton Yelchin's character that bugged me a good amount of the time.
Spoiler:
I'm not sure if it was his verbal delivery but the character was excruciatingly whiny for me, even if he was supposed to be painted out as the timid/cowardly member of the band.

Isn't it his character that decides to cover the Dead Kennedys' 'Nazi Punks Fuck Off' in front of an entire venue of Nazi Skinheads?

This movie was fucking brutal. I can't remember the last time flinched so much due to gore.

Someone else said the word "brutal" on a Facebook horror page I'm on.

What helps that feeling is how sudden some of the gore is and calmly it's filmed.

For instance
Spoiler:
the scene where Justin gets cut open with the box cutter after he gets choked out, as well as the scene where the drummer (Reece) gets stabbed after climbing out the open window, were very quiet, 'blink & you'll miss it' moments of gore.

The

shotgun blast to the face of the "Romeo-type" traitor character
too. That one got me.

Yeah, that dude is excellent.

Spoiler:
regarding his voice, I think that's just how he sounds when he's hiding his natural accent.

Regarding the second bit, after seeing this flick again today, I think that this movie has more in common with Blue Ruin than I initially thought. In both films, the characters make bad decisions and suffer specific consequences because of them. So his decision to play that song was initially brought up as a joke (he even says, "I have a dumb idea.") and regrets it right before they actually follow through, when he sees how tough the crowd looks.

I actually laughed when
Spoiler:
Daniel, the guy who turned on the skinheads, was shot in the face and killed. Here the audience thinks this guy is going to save the day, and boom, dead shortly after he decides to help the band.

I can't remember the last time I saw Patrick Stewart in a role outside of X-Men. It was fun seeing him in something different.

Also I didn't realize Imogen Poots was in this until the credits. Must have been the hairstyle that threw me off. Shame we didn't get to see her as the hottie she usually is.

Finally, I couldn't stop thinking of Arrested Development when Sam (the chick guitarist) was on screen. She'll always be Maeby to me.

Cool movie, I'll probably pick it up on blu.

My jaw hurts from clenching during the entire film. It's the most intense movie I've seen in ages.

Fantastic movie. Really suspenseful and felt like a "smart" movie. Also the gore while present didn't seem gratuitous at all.

One of the male leads really reminded me of
Spoiler:
the last man standing in Cabin In The Woods.

You might want to spoiler that since it's a totally different movie.
