A day after pushing “Fast & Furious 9” to April 2020, Universal is placing a spin-off film starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham on their slate, with the release date set for July 26, 2019.
Chris Morgan, who has written the scripts for every “F&F” film since “Tokyo Drift” in 2006, will pen the script for this spin-off, which will see Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and redeemed “F&F” villain Deckard Shaw (Statham) go off on their own adventure. The film has yet to be titled.

Well I have to eat my word because apparently Tyrese and Luda were offered a spinoff but they rejected it according to Tyrese. I am thinking he wasn't offered nearly the deal Dwayne was however.

Vin just posted this on Instagram.
It sounds like he’s trying to calm everyone down after Tyrese’s rant.

The Fast and Furious series is in a strange place right now. It just came off a highly successful eighth entry, and yet that success has been marred somewhat by public infighting and spinoff news. Meanwhile, it’s still unclear who will direct the next (or next two) installments.
I’m not saying this Facebook Live video from Vin Diesel clears anything up, but it certainly points us in a couple of directions:
<iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FVinDiesel%2Fvideos%2F10155972220958313%2F&show_text=1&width=560" width="560" height="543" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowTransparency="true" allowFullScreen="true"></iframe>
For those who didn’t watch, a choice I totally understand, this appears to be Vin Diesel on a top secret movie set, which he uses to tease the director of the final two Fast & Furious films: Justin Lin. Apparently this is for real, as EW is reporting the classic F&F director in “Advanced Talks” to do at least the next film.
But that’s not all! Diesel also brings back Jordana Brewster, indicating she will return as well. That’ll be interesting. Mia sat The Fate of the Furious out, something we all just accepted since she’s Brian’s wife, and Brian’s out of the series for obvious, tragic reasons. But Mia’s still family, and I’ll happily welcome her return.
But the real effect of this video for me is confusion. Diesel sounds pretty confident, and this is all big news if true, but I just don’t know what to believe. I also don’t know who else is coming back when they do this other movie. We’ll just have to wait and see if this miracle machine has any more NOS left in it or not.

The last movie was fun, but I find it the least re-watchable over the past couple movies. Hopefully they find a way to bring back Jordana. Obviously at the end of the day, it's not her fault that Paul died, so no reason to keep her out of the movies if they can find an interesting way to put her back in without making it awkward without Paul. But with all of the other beef going on with Rock, Tyrese, etc. I just hope they can make a fun movie without the drama and finish the series on a positive note.

re: Fast & Furious 9 (April 10, 2020, D: Lin)
The ongoing feud between Fast & Furious franchise stars Tyrese Gibson and Dwayne Johnson has escalated with Gibson announcing that he will not appear in the upcoming ninth film if Johnson is a member of the cast.
The war of words between both actors began when Gibson pleaded with Johnson to postpone the then-developing Fast & Furious spin-off starring Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. After universal announced that Fast & Furious 9 would be pushed back a full year and confirmed the spin-off will take the 2019 release year, Gibson took to Instagram to blame Johnson for delaying production of the ninth installment of the franchise. Now, Gibson has declared his intention to sit out of Fast and Furious 9 all together should Johnson be a member of the ensemble cast in a new post:
“I’m sorry to announce that if Dewayne is in Fast9 there will no more Roman Peirce – You mess with family and my daughters survival I mess with yours……… close your eyes dude you’re a ‘Clown’.”
below is a transcript from instagram:
Hello world.......... hello loyal fans and loved ones from OUR fast universe........ What a fucking baby. He’s acting like there won’t be a movie at all. I guess he can’t find work elsewhere.

"mess with my daughter's survival"?? wtf are these movies all he can do to provide for his family? sell some of your properties or downsize. And what was the plan after the series ended? i mean he cant expect the high income from this series to last forever. He has to be trolling, maybe its all advertisement to create hype

Man, he's being a total douchebag.
Hope that Chris Morgan just writes his whiney ass off the next movie.

The comments on Tyrese's Instagram are mostly negative about him.
LOL....what was he expecting? Aside from the Fast and Furious movies and a few Transformers movies he did, he has nothing really notable on his resume. Plus, he's failed R&B singer.
Don't let the door hit you on your way out.
If anything The Rock helped the series become a billion dollar film franchise.

Why would he think that pulling out of Fast 9 would hurt the box office in any way? He's only been in a half of them and was only one of the two main characters in arguably the weakest entry. He's losing his mind.

Haha, wow, he's got some real issues going on. I wouldn't be surprised at all now if he's not in the next one. Or if his role is reduced to a glorified cameo.
