Captain Fantastic -- D: Ross S: Mortensen -- 2016
Plot: In the forests of the Pacific Northwest, a father devoted to raising his six kids with a rigorous physical and intellectual education is forced to leave his paradise and enter the world, challenging his idea of what it means to be a parent.
This is screening at Sundance. Getting good reviews so far.
Written and directed by Matt Ross. You may know him as this guy from American Psycho.
Anyhow, we need more Viggo Mortensen. Such a great actor.
Here's a couple pictures from the film.

Trailer looks solid (and the music was great) - TOO BAD I feel like I've seen the entire film because of it.

wider release this weekend. Still holding strong on RT at 77%. Not sure I'll get out to the theater, but I want to see it one way or another.

Saw it. Another illustration of Mortensen's great acting ability and once again makes one wish he was used more often. The movie itself is pretty thought provoking, even though I felt the ending drug a bit. However, the scene of
was a very moving sequence. I had a smile on my face the whole time.
Upon reflection, I cannot help but think how this would have been with the same title, lead actor, and premise, but with Wes Anderson as the director/screenwriter? Probably not as realistic looking, but the nature and story seem tailor made for his style.

This is now streaming on Amazon Prime. Definitely worth a watch for the acting alone (and I really enjoyed the flick as well).
The director, Matt Ross, also plays Gavin (the CEO of Hooli) on Silicon Valley. That character is so well realized it's hard to picture him directing a movie like this.

The first half is actually good and then the second half is just a giant disappointment. I don't think I've ever heard a rendition of Sweet Child o' Mine that made me want to punch someone so badly.
