Yeah, I was embarrassed to only make the connection this week. I was showing the trailer to a buddy and asked him if he'd seen John Wick. Then it hit me. Not my proudest moment.

Can't wait to see this one. The trailers crack me up every time I see them. Love their show.

Re: Keanu (2016, D: Atencio) S: Key & Peele
Keanu Reeves will fittingly voice the titular cat in Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele's upcoming movie, Keanu.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, director Peter Atencio explained that he, Key and Peele were initially wary about reaching out to Reeves due to the similarities between their movie and John Wick (beyond the name itself): In Wick, Reeves' character seeks vengeance on Russian mobsters who kill his dog, while Keanu finds Key and Peele trying to track down a kitten stolen by gangsters.
At the behest of Warner Bros., however, Atencio said they reached out to Reeves, but his representatives declined. "Who knows if he ever even heard about the offer," Atencio said. "But then we got a call after the trailer came out — apparently, his sister showed him the trailer and said, 'Hey, you gotta see this. You're gonna love this!' He flipped out and got in touch with us directly to say 'If there's anything I can do, let's make this work.'"
To fit Reeves in the nearly completed film, Atencio said they expanded a scene where Keanu the cat guides Peele's character through a drug trip. With Reeves filming John Wick 2 in Italy at the time, he went to a Rome recording studio and spent about an hour recording dialog with Atencio, who called in via Skype.
"The studio [Warner Bros.] was wanting him to drop a bunch of references to his old movies," Atencio said. "But we didn't want to make it overt or too pointed. We don't want him to do, like, his Bill and Ted voice and beat you over the head with it. And he had great ideas for lines. He was having fun with it."
Atencio added that while the cat, and movie, were named for Reeves "as an act of love for his movies, and especially the kind of movies that he makes," Keanu doesn't try to make a big deal out of the connection. "We didn’t want it to be something where you're just kind of waiting for the big Keanu payoff, which is why it's cool that he's involved in this way — it's a subtle way of acknowledging that of course he's the direct inspiration for that name."

You need some hack film critic to tell you if a movie with Key and Peele and a cat is funny?

Currently 77% right now.

I enjoyed it. I never watched there show so I wasn't familiar with their comedy but it had some fun laughs. It's not one of those movies that will make your sides hurt but you will laugh and it's enjoyable. The Reeves voice over kinda threw me because I didn't think it sounded like him at all. 3.5/5

I was thoroughly annoyed by what I saw - it was actually boring - The cat was the best part (and my popcorn). Key and Peele are funny in sketch form but in a narrative 90 minute feature - no

This was what I was concerned about. I love their sketches but a 90 minute sketch is tough to keep the same bit funny that long.

I loved Key & Peele - often had moments of sheer genius. While this was enjoyable ENOUGH, I'd say it just made the cut. There are literally 5 jokes in the entire movie, just done over and over again with SLIGHT variation. Yeah, the cat is cute and the homages to other movies can be clever/fun but I was really expecting a lot more laughs...also, I think they could have lost 20 minutes and it would have made the movie stronger. Some great visual style going on but not enough for me to heartily recommend it - think the critics went easy on this one because K&P are so likeable.

Different strokes.
Saw this with a friend and we both really, really enjoyed it. Great absurdist comedy. Favorite comedy of the year so far.
Highly recommended.

Saw it last night. Have never seen their show before or any of their stand-up, if they even do that. I'm sure there were in-jokes for fans that went completely over my head. I thought it was pretty funny. Not something I feel the need to see again, but I laughed.

I'm a big fan of the show. I laughed throughout, but totally agree that this would've been better at an 85min run time.

I was in a serious depression most of today, but this perked me up for a while. Key and Peele are comic geniuses as far as I'm concerned (and I don't throw that word liberally). Their comic timing is always sterling and their clever imaginations were always digging up gold on their show. The movie delivered what was promised and I'm good with that. Is it as good as their show? No. But, most modern comedies these days leave me cold, so this was a treat. I'm looking forward to their future output.

Saw it liked it, the middle part dragged out somewhat, but the final 1/3rd was great. Like the bus, best comedy seen so far this year..
