There's gonna be a good number of possession-off people who will pay good money for an IMAX ticket expecting Cloverfield 2. At a lot of us who check the internet was warned of this some time ago.

Considering nothing was shown in the trailer, I think they know that it isn't an all out monster movie. Plus I'm sure killer audio could be a good exorcise for them.

I don't know, after reading comments on social media. Many are saying (thinking) the trailer is just showing half the movie.

Yep. Even knowing what I know about the spoilers in the movie, the ads are making it look like they're just showing scenes from the first half. If what we've read is true there's going to be a lot of pissed off people after those false tease ads.

I will go see it this Friday but will see it at a regular $5 matinee. It will be interesting to hear people's reaction when the movie end.

I don't think this has any relation to Cloverfield at all other than sharing it in the title to pique interest. However, I am still interested to see what it is all about. I would still like a proper follow-up though.

I'll probably go see this next week. I don't want to read much more about it, I figure the less I know the better. I'm also down for seeing Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

JJ was on Colbert last night and remarked to the fact that this may take place in the same universe as Cloverfield...

I still want to see this because it looks good...
... but FYI, people, I've read a screening synopsis and this film has ZERO clear connections to "the first film" (I'm hesitant to even call this a sequel). If you're expecting to see the Cloverfield monster you will be incredibly disappointed.
I think it's incredibly disingenuous of Abrams to even try connecting the two films. It sets a high bar for expectations that won't be met. This should've been sold on its own merit, especially since it was done so cheap.

The tagline is meant to deceive people into thinking the films are related. Some websites even called it Cloverfield 2.
Spoiler:
It's all very deceptive, and I guarantee there will be pissed off viewers that this movie doesn't have a monster in it.

No I'm aware of that, but Cloverfield you knew what kind of movie it was right off the bat. POV Monster movie.
I never got that sense out of this in any of the advertising. This movie is obviously misdirecting its audience with its referential name -- or maybe it isn't and there is something tying them together.
That said, if anything, this is a prequel / simultaneous timeline.

The fact that people in this very thread can't outright dismiss the two films as being related is telling. The film was made under the title Valencia and The Cellar and had nothing to do with Cloverfield. JJ Abrams scooped it up, changed the title, and the marketing department ran with the deception. There are going to be a lot of confused viewers upon its release.
I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't really comment. All I know is I love the two lead actors, it's getting phenomenal reviews, and it reminds me a little of The Mist for some reason.

JJ was on-board from the get go, Valencia was it's code name, it was actually produced with a good bit of secrecy (per Mary Elizabeth Winstead). The Cellar was the original script's name. Correct that the original script had nothing to do with Cloverfield.

Variety and Hollywood Reporter, which I read today, really liked it. I will probably see it Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

One blurb calls it "a sequel in third-act only" ... Another clearly references "monster movie."
I'll see it Friday morning
