Aronofsky is not really one for subtlety outside of maybe The Wrestler which this does not remind me of. I mean lets take a look:

Pi : The one with the drill to the head
Requiem : Ass to Ass
The Fountain : The sci-fi historical metaphorical epic with a jizzing tree and bubble transport
Noah : Rock Lobster Monsters
Black Swan : Live action Perfect Blue with human swan necks, additional body horror and nail files to the face
The Wrestler does have a sequence where wrestlers use staple guns to their opponents

I'd prefer this version.

The biggest shock from the trailer: it's released in 5 weeks! (?)

I'm ready to see it.

I'm not the filmmaker. And the filmmaker can do what they want to do. But I'm already hoping this is happening for real, and doesn't turn into one of those 'all in your head' twists.

This looks like the white version of Get Out, only, instead of the interracial couple visiting a bunch of weirdos, it's the couple that gets visited by a bunch of weirdos and this time it's the white chick who's in peril.

It looks nothing like Get Out to me, then again I never felt the storyline for Get Out was particularly original, just well executed with some amusing social commentary.

I guess this could be the same but about a young chick dating an old dude.

This also won't make nearly as much as Get Out (which grossed $175m domestic)

Could go either way. If anyone can pull of a Kubrick style horror in the tradition of The Shining its Aronofsky.

First reviews from Venice are very positive:

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mother_2017

The audience reaction was apparently mixed, but apparently even those that didn't like it were engaged.

Sounds typical for an Aronofsky flick.

I'm not going to watch the second trailer. The less I know the better. But definitely seeing this.

I'm mostly intrigued by the mystery - if there is a supernatural threat, or psychological struggle.

I'd skip the reviews too, I feel like some of the "abstract blurbs" are a bit more telling than they should be.

Bought my ticket for this Thursday!

I saw a newer Trailer before IT at the Alamo Drafthouse that was cut like an old 70s Trailer. The crowd laughed a whole lot but I thought it was pretty interesting.

This exchange has me intrigued... Cerny has specifically said he "kinda freaking loved" it but...

I stopped at 1:35 of Stuckman's review. "Lots of different ways to interpret this movie". Sounds like it goes the same way as Black Swan.

Re: mother! (2017, D: Aronofsky) S: Lawrence, Bardem, Pfeiffer, Harris

Some additional non-spoilery thoughts:

This film was, at least for me, super tense. That doesn't happen often. Haute Tension, Open Water, Frozen (the ski resort flick), parts of Requiem for a Dream... that's the kind of tension I felt through this, although I wouldn't say this film was anything like those, if that makes sense.

The third act is... something else. I loved it... but people are going to HATE this movie, y'all.

Other than that (and the trailers) it's best going in knowing NOTHING else. Don't look at the IMDB cast list. Don't read any real reviews, which are super spoilery in the way they talk about this flick, even if not giving specific spoilers.

Don't forget... it's Aronofsky. He earns his R rating. This is most like RFAD than the rest (edit: maybe? I don't know... but it's not for the faint of heart)

Go see it, and enjoy the hell out of it if you can stomach it. I'll see you on the spoiler-filled side.

To say this one is dark and quite disturbing, especially for the last half an hour is an understatement. Its' not for everyone thats for sure but I liked it a lot. Arronfosky sure is twisted as this isn't based on anything in particular.

eh, I thought it was alright. Darren Aronofsky is giving Lars Von Trier a run for his money when it comes to how far a director can shove their head up their own ass.

It was better than Noah, there's that I guess.

Re: mother! (2017, D: Aronofsky) S: Lawrence, Bardem, Pfeiffer, Harris

So, I'm watching the movie and yea... the last act is fucking bizarre. But not enough to warrant all the buzz (yet). And I think to myself... how bad could this get to justify all the headlines? What are they going to do...
Spoiler:
kill and eat the baby?
And then they
Spoiler:
killed and ate the baby.

I know some people have said the less you know going into to this one the better. But I would advise reading some interviews with Aronosky and Lawrence first about the allegory of it all. By the end of the movie, the allegory is apparent, but I think that knowing more about it going in would help identify what is going on more. That is something that could improve on second viewing, but I don't know how many will want to watch this again.

Everyone was good in the movie and it was well made.

Kyle Smith, former NY Post film critic and now at National Review, is up in arms over this:

http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...g-torture-porn

I wonder how someone who's seen it and liked it would respond to his assertions.
