Here's an episode of "The Rebel," from 1960, that may have supplied Tarantino with some ideas for HATEFUL EIGHT:

very well done. liked the tension and the mystery. a little long for me, but very well done and the 2nd and 3rd acts were magnificent.

Here is something I'm not getting

Spoiler:
I'm assuming Ruth knew exactly who Daisy was. That's why he was hyper cautious, he was expecting her brother's gang to try and free her. At the end when the gang members reveal their real names Warren is familiar with the names and knows the exact bounty on each of them. Why didn't he realize who she was from the get go in the stagecoach when he learns her name is Domergue? I would expect he would be familiar with her and the bounty on her as he was with the other gang members. As a bounty hunter Warren seemed to be on the ball, his shit wired tight, he should have realized exactly who she was, and what kind of shit could be waiting as soon as Ruth introduced her.

It started upside down, but after that and some jostling if the image for position it was excellent. They should have done it in their widescreen theater, but it was big enough.

Yikes. I hope he gave the writer of that episode a credit in TH8, because he ripped off enough from it.

the more i think about this movie in retrospect the more i really dug it and got most of it. Walton Goggins i've always loved and was incredible in this. i really hope this turns into more for him. just really done, especially the last 2 chapters. not my favorite, but very well done! can't wait to see it again and see the roadshow version!

I think a better question would be why did Ruth
Spoiler:
not recognize any of the other members of the gang. Clearly, he was at least familiar with her crimes. Of course, it would have been a different movie if he had

was that a fake letter from Lincoln that Warren made up? the very end with Warren and Chris seemed to elude to that, but wasn't certain...

Yes, He admitted it earlier in the movie when Mannix challenged him on it. There was a whole scene devoted to him explaining to Ruth why he would make something like that up.

Saw it again for a second time. This time just the regular version. Enjoyed it more the second time knowing what was going on. I didn't really notice any difference beside the lack of overture and intermission. I found it very strange that the QT narration stayed in.

Re: The Hateful Eight (Tarantino, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

Saw the 70mm Roadshow for the 3rd time since X-Mas. Took one of my best friends to the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, CA to see it.

Another sold out show! It was a 7:35p showing on a Wednesday night and the line was just as long as it was on X-Mas day, wrapping around the building and going down the street. Signs were posted all over the doors saying the showing was sold out and people asking for extra tickets.

Loved it just as much as I did the other times I saw it. My friend said he really enjoyed it too. Loved Ennio Morricone's score.

This was a goddamn masterpiece. Beats the shit out of Star Wars and gets to share the spotlight with Fury Road as my favorite films of 2016. Watched it in 70mm and it was glorious. Got one of them programs, too.

Not a weak actor in the bunch, although Tatum felt a little out of place. Luckily that didn't matter for too long.
Tatum reminded me of Leo in Django - Calvin Candy.

My mind immediately jumped to Agatha Christie. I'd love to say that's insightful, but pretty much ever professional reviewer has pointed it out.

Saw this in 70mm. It was everything I hoped it'd be. Happily, I didn't have any projection issues, though they seem to be rampant.

Actually the last scene alluded to it being real. I think almost everything he says is a lie, except for the letter. Maybe QT will comment at some point.

Not really. He read it and even mentioned that the Mary Todd part was a "nice touch." It's fake.

He wasn't hateful.

I can't say I enjoyed the movie but I'm sure glad I saw it.

Re: The Hateful Eight (Tarantino, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

The more I sit and think about this movie the more I love it. I love the claustrophobia. I love the paranoia. I think that there could be some fat to trim but overall I think it was pretty great.

Reservoir Dogs was the movie that introduced me to Quentin Tarantino and made me think about movies differently. I've loved Quentin ever since. Carpenter's The Thing is one of my all-time favorite movies in any genre. The Hateful Eight is like a combination of the two.

I hope that I get the chance to see the Roadshow performance again before that goes away.

I loved the score and cinematography. There were some compositions that almost made look like horror.

I maintain that The Hateful Eight is a horror movie.
