RotS is the best of the PT. But it's also not a good film. I'm bored in AotC more than I am in TPM. But TPM may be better. I dunno. I'll never watch those films again.

I'll also never call Star Wars by it's newer title, A New Hope. Fuck that. It came out as SW and I don't believe in Lucas' BS revisionism of Film History.

I wouldn't call my list definitive only having seen The Force Awakens once but at the moment I'd say:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. The Force Awakens
4. Return of the Jedi

The Prequel Trilogy doesn't matter to me but if I were to rank them too I'd go:

5. Revenge of the Sith
6. The Phantom Menace
7. Attack of the Clones

I'm sorry but no way any high point in RotS betters one of the highpoints in RotJ. Just no way. I may bitch about how RotJ isn't as good as it may be thought it out to be but one high point in RotJ is shit tons better than RotS as a whole.

Order 66 and the final shot in ROTS does rival anything in ROTJ. I only put Jedi ahead of it for the cast. ROTJ was the first bad Star Wars film and a huge letdown to many that saw it in 83, to me more so than the prequels.

Jedi has its flaws, but man nothing in Sith is as good as the whole first act on Tattooine, or the emotion in the throne room scene.

After re-watching the prequels a couple months ago I found that I liked the movies less than I remembered (and I had some serious reservations about them before that).

But I still like the plots - I love that political intrigue stuff. Lucas just wasn't remotely capable of pulling off what he hoped to. The scripts were crap - awful dialogue and characterization killed those movies. The direction was pretty bad, too. Lucas is well known as a terrible actor's director.

I think the prequels could have been really good with someone else writing the scripts and legit directors handling the filming. Lucas had a framework that could have made for good movies - but his scripts and direction were awful.

That's why I was so enthused when it was announced he would have nothing to do with the new batch of sequels! (Preaching to the choir? ;) )

Exactly. I may not love most of the Tatooine bit, it's got pacing issues, but the throne room and a handful of other scenes are so on point that they're just A+ material. RotS has nothing to match up to it. It's just boring but interesting cuz we're seeing what leads up to the good shit.

RotS has nothing to rival the solid drama in that throne room. All it has is to amp up to shit we already know. And while that can be fun... it wasn't even good.

Order 66 wasn't all that great either. It was just too mundane and simple. Especially considering how these Jedis, in the PT, are like superhuman motherfuckers. They went out like bitches. I'm not saying I wanted some heavy as hell resistance or whatever but... they were very lacking in drama or sense.

The problem with Revenge of the Sith is that it's not bad by the standards of the Prequel Trilogy but it was too little too late. The first two films were so shitty that there wasn't enough to be invested with by the third film and it couldn't make up for them.

Yeah. It's a step up but it's still a slog. Which doesn't say much considering what it followed.

It's still a boring as fuck film to me. So much nothing drama. I'm seeing all this conflict and struggle but feel NOTHING towards it.

They didn't go out like bitches, they were sucker punched. To me, that carried much greater emotional weight than if there were some big battle.

Disney/Lucasfilms has said that The Clone Wars is canon on par with the films. I really don't think we have to acknowledge it because we all know it will be the first thing dropped from continuity whenever Disney gets around to making movies set in that era. It's a way to sucker kids into believing their animated show is legitimate.

All of the Jedi went down like bitches except for the one played by Jett Lucas, George Lucas' son.

I'm OK that George Lucas gave his family cameo roles (including himself) in the PT, but having his son as the only "Jedi" (or youngling trainee whatever) to kick a ton of ass before being killed was ridiculous.

I largely feel the same way--the plots weren't the problem.

For me, the prequels would have all been decent movies if:

--the kiddie/cartoon/slapstick poo-dooh, Jar Jar, Roger-roger humor had all been removed.

--better dialogue and direction of actors

--ONLY real actors and stuntpeople in lightsaber battles--no CGI

That would have fixed a good 95% of what I didn't like about them.

Don't give a shit about the other 3. Now dead to me.

Agreed, with all the new movies coming out I don't see myself ever rewatching the prequels.

I need to watch TFA again but this is how I'd rank them right now:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. The Force Awakens
5. Revenge of the Sith
6. Attack of the Clones
7. The Phantom Menace

re: Rank the Star Wars films

For me:

1- empire
2- the force awakens
3- a new hope
4- revenge of the sith
5- Jedi and clones (tied)
7- menace

I don't hate the PT as much as most. Especially since my son watches them a lot. I've actually grown to like parts of each movie, although there is a lot to dislike. Jedi to me is a waste of the talent they had available to them.

ewoks to me are equally as annoying as jar jar.
