I dunno. Alec Guinness Kenobi seemed like he was totally in tune w/ the life he chose. Didn't seem like that type of guy. Granted... maybe Kenobi wasn't at peace w/ just sitting around and jerking it alone. But then that kind of goes against what he chose to do on Tatooine. Keeping low and such.
It only really works if you know who you're talking about. We know who Kenobi and Solid Snake is. We know their stories and their personalities/characteristics.

She will probably end up being the daughter of Felicity Jones' character in Rogue One.

There's another one floating around that she's Vader reincarnated (i.e. The Chosen One, Child of the force).

If the saber is "calling to her", she definitely has to have some type of Skywalker connection. Maybe they cloned her from Luke's severed hand.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Abrams, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

How do we account for the teaser saying "The force is strong in my family, my father has it, my sister, and you..." and she isn't a skywalker (part of the family)?

Now, I was/am still in the Obi's granddaugher camp, but even then. That isn't really family. unless....

Could have been talking to his nephew, Ben Solo as well.

so looks like a young Carrie Fisher and a young Natalie Portman. Luke's lightsaber called to her... and went to her... she's strong in the Force... She's a fucking Skywalker, somehow.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Abrams, 2015) — The Reviews Thread — SPOILERS

I think Lucas left breadcrumbs for an eventual sequel trilogy in these two scenes.

Given that she seems to be able to do anything, has mechanical skills possibly above Anakin, and showed more force ability than Anakin or Luke without training, I'm guessing she was born the same way Anakin was, and someone, probably Luke, hid her on Jakku. That was not a look of happiness on his face when he sees her at the end IMO.

I think you read too much into Luke there.

The guy hasn't seen anybody for however long and then some girl comes to him w/ his lightsaber.

At this point we don't know what training she may have had in the past.

pretty sure it was zero, considering she was surprised when Luke's name was even mentioned and said something to the effect that she thought he was a myth.

I still don't get why Chewie and R2 didn't go with Rey to meet Luke. It might have been nice for him to see some familiar faces instead of a complete stranger. I guess they had to guard the Falcon or something.

Yes. The Falcon that apparently anyone had access to on Jakku.
Luke had no razors, but there was plenty of food, and water.

If Rey's father is Luke, he made no effort to find her after she was left behind on Jakku.
What a dick.
His child support is going to be unaffordable - even if his sister is running things.

Screw logic. J.J. wanted his epic staring contest and dramatic helicopter shot. Nothing was going to get in the way of that.

I'm sure it's supposed to be that they sensed each other through the Force already -- like Yoda watching Luke grow up all the way on Dagobah. Luke even says that the swamp feels familiar -- just like Rey had already seen the island in her head while growing up on Jakku.

I'm sure there was a cut scene where Luke does a Vulcan mind meld with Rey and it's revealed that Snoke has imprisoned her parents.

So in EP8, Luke and Rey try to break them out of prison.

I still think the Luke ending shoulda been hacked off. Leave it for another flick. They already had the perfect ending shot. Hit the lightspeed, blue credits, Williams.

Depends on how they are gonna structure the progress of time sequel to sequel. Will they jump 2-5 years like OT/PT? I dunno. If they dont and try something new, Id love to see Rey and Chewie making the journey and bonding on the way. Really let her earn her place as the new captain of the Falcon. Plus that helicopter shot was awkward as fuuuuu.

It did. I can't remember the order of the shots anymore but THAT shot was awkward as fuck cuz then that means Rey standing there arm out for a long time. When the shot of her w/ the saber in the foreground and her in focus was much more emotionally stronger that shitty helicopter shot. I remember timing it when I posted about it and it was a long fucking time w/ Rey doing that there. Like... awkward amount of time of her just... standing there overall. The closeup w/ the saber was the way to go just cuz Rey was emotionally laying it all right there for herself and Luke.

The entire movie was about the hunt for Luke (and blowing up DSIII) and you want to remove that meeting at the end? Hardcore.

How pissed would the crowds be if they hadn't shown Luke at all? I probably would've been.
