Hansen, who was born in Reykjavik, Iceland and moved to the U.S. at age 5, got his first role as the iconic, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface in 1973. He once said that when people met him, they often reacted in shock because he was so unlike the psychotic character from the classic horror film. Hansen appeared in as many as 20 movies, worked as a magazine editor, wrote screenplays and books, and directed a documentary on Greenland, according to his IMDb page. |

Very sad news. TCSM is one of my favorite films. Gunner seemed like a good guy. RIP.

Not the biggest fan of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but Gunnar seemed like a nice guy. RIP.

I just saw this on twitter. RIP Gunnar. I read his book Chainsaw Confidential and it was a good read.

Did he play the character in any sequels, or just the one film?
Also, rest in peace. I saw the film for the first time when I was way too young (probably 8) it was very effective, I've never revisited it in all my film going years, and I recall nearly all of it because it really burned itself in to my memory. |
