Updated predictions indicate Marvels will top out at 210-240M globally, which would prove massively disastrous.

I feel like they hedged their bet by pulling back on advertising.

Final 2nd wknd for Marvels came in at 10.1m. Interesting that it looks like it'll mirror Birds of Prey pretty closely - finishing just a bit above its domestic/worldwide of 84m/205m.

It's going to be crazy if the domestic total of The Marvels doesn't even clear what the first film made on its opening weekend ($153 mil). Wow.

I'm curious to see how the next Aquaman fares. I don't see that coming any near the original film either.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I wonder if The Marvels would have done worse if it got released in it's original date in late July. That was close to the beginning of the actor's strike. And it would have been caught during the Barbenheimer madness.

It won't come close to that. At this point, it looks like The Marvels will be lucky if it breaks the $100 million mark at the end of its domestic run.

Impressive # for Godzilla and Dream Scenario, and a solid hold for Hunger Games.

Disney will no longer report The Marvels numbers after this week.

I will expect it to be on PVOD sometime in the next month or so.

Yup, Marvels is toast now after falling out of the Top 10 after just 4 weeks.
80M/197M total now...

Taylor Swift, by a very wide margin

Taylor Swift by a landslide

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/...ref_=bo_se_r_2

Her movie has made $249M worldwide and opened at $92M

Beyonce only opened at $21M. It's not going to come anywhere close to those earnings.

Next question, from the perspective of the art of creating a concert movie, which is the better film? I mean from a cinematic standpoint, not a musical one.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

So are we going to have two Japanese films in the top 10… maybe even top 5 this weekend? That seems like a first.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Taking a bit of a tumble is “Renaissance,” which earned $1.6 million on its second Friday — down more than 85% from last week’s opening day. The AMC Theatres release should push to about $28 million through the end of the weekend — still a solid figure for a concert documentary, but hardly the phenomenon that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” managed two months ago when it fell only 64% in its second frame and reached $131 million in its first ten days.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

They should just open up Renaissance to A-List and Regal Unlimited if they want to get more eyes on it. It's obvious that movie just didn't have the value of a premium event that Taylor Swift's concert had.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

So Gozilla Minus One hit #1 on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I don't think any Japanese Godzilla movie ever hit #1 for even a single day before. (Maybe King Kong VS Godzilla for a day? Maybe?? I doubt it, though - and they didn't keep daily numbers then like they do now.)

This is a huge hit for Toho. The funny thing is it's only doing a little more than 1/3 of the box office of Shin Godzilla in Japan. But the overall worldwide numbers are going to be close. I don't think Toho will dismiss the American market ever again. (They've always seemed casually disinterested in the American market, preferring in decades past to sell the G movies to an American distributor for a flat fee.)

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

"Miyazilla" is the new Barbenheimer.

Someone pointed out that the one-two punch of Miyazaki's THE BOY AND THE HERON and GODZILLA MINUS ONE was responsible for Japanese films occupying the 1st and 2nd spots on the U.S. boxoffice chart on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day. Is that accurate? THE BOY AND THE HERON didn't open wide till December 8, right?

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Strong weekend for Godzilla and Heron. And correct, while Heron had previews on Thursday, Friday was its official opening date. There is a certain level of irony in the stat for December 7th as it is technically correct. Though early December is traditionally one of the slowest periods of the year for new releases (due to normally being big releases for Thanksgiving.) Which is appealing for niche titles like these.

Crazy high per theater for Poor Things, with a strong audience score (Cinemas ore: A-).

Eileens is a misprint as that expanded into 500+ theaters this weekend.

Will probably replace this later with a more current one later.

Strong start for Wonka. Hunger Games legged out pretty well.
