Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Avengers is shaping up to $245m OW, it has the potential to beat The Force Awakens. As expected, it sucked all of the air out of the rest of the top 10. It made $105m yesterday incl $39m in Thurs previews, repeat viewing and spectacular word of mouth is going to boost it.

#1. Avengers: IW - $245m
#2. A Quiet Place - $10m (-52%)
#3. I Feel Pretty - $7.9m (-51%)
#4. Rampage - $6.8m (-66%)
#5. Black Panther - $3.8m (-21%)
#6. Super Troopers 2 - $3.2m (-79%)
#7. Truth or Dare - $3m (-58%)
#8. Blockers - $2.9m (-57%)
#9. Ready Player One - $2.6m (-64%)
#10. Traffik - $1.7m (-57%)
#11. Isle of Dogs - $1.2m (-64%)

Screen Engine/ComScore’s PostTrak scores are huge showing 93% overall positive so far which bests the positive score for both Avengers: Age of Ultron (90%) and Captain America: Civil War (88%). Five amazing stars for Infinity War. Audience makeup is 66% guys to 34% females which is the same breakdown as Civil War. Fifty-eight percent are over 25 for Infinity War versus 51% over 25 for Civil War and 55% under 25 for Age of Ultron. CinemaScore is an overall A for Infinity War.

http://deadline.com/2018/04/avengers...ds-1202378032/

Sunday AM Writethru: Disney is officially calling the record for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War‘s opening at $250M, which smokes the studio’s own Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.96M). Rivals agree it’s a record between $248M-$250M.

Infinity War scored the record for the best Saturday ever with $83M, which is 19% ahead of the previous Saturday record owned by Universal’s Jurassic World ($69.6M, June 13, 2015). Today marked a wonderful -22% ease from Friday’s $106.7M (including $39M Thursday previews). Back those previews out of Friday ($67.7M) and today was +23% over yesterday for the Disney-Marvel title.

i love when they say "smokes" the previous record when it's only roughly $3mil. they always do that when a record is broken. "Crushed" when it's only by a few million. it's great don't get me wrong, but smokes less than $3mil apart? no...

I normally have the same issue, but this one didn't bug me. If it makes you feel any better, the actual is about $8 - $10m higher than Force Awakens. At what point is it "crushed"?

Looks like Avengers: IW pulled $255m - $258m. TFA did $247.9m.

A:IW's Sunday was almost better than the previous best Saturday.

So is Infinity War considered a Summer movie (for future box office records and stuff). It certainly would have been if ti has kept its original release date of 5/4/18 but moving it to April makes it harder to consider that the Summer movie season.

There really isn't much of a "summer movie season" anymore.

It's just one week before, so I don't think that disqualifies it as not being a summer movie. But like Hokeyboy said, there isn't much of a summer movie season anymore. They're just all meshing together.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

It looks like they adjusted the final numbers for Avengers. $258,184,000. That's pretty crazy. It made more in it's first weekend than Justice League did in it's entire run. Now I'm wondering what the next Avengers will bring in opening weekend.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Truth or Dare is a horrible movie. I'm probably the only one in this forum who saw it.

But, it's definitely a hit. Made a lot of money on a low low budget. I noticed that most who liked it judging from what I've seen on social media are young girls and teens.

Especially since it still seems to be winter in NYC.

The New York Times today says INFINITY WARS has a $300 million budget with $150 million more on marketing. That's insane. Does that make this the most expensive Hollywood movie in history? And what was the previous record?

I've seen $250m - $300m as the listed budget, the old saying was 1/2 budget for advertising, but I haven't seen as many tie-ins and such for this as I normally do so I'm not sure they spent THAT much, but that's also World Wide so they may have gone big in other countries.

Here are the most expensive movie budgets (unadjusted):

Avengers 3 & 4 Budget May Cost Marvel Studios $1 Billion

At last monthís African American Critics Association luncheon (via Atlanta Business Chronicle), Pinewood Atlanta Studios co-owner Dan Cathy cut loose with a jaw-dropping report that an unnamed film currently shooting at his studio is the largest film production ever with a $1 billion budget. Cathy was not allowed to name the production, but Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel Avengers 4 are currently filming at the Pinewood Complex (and Infinity War wonít be done any time soon if Scarlett Johanssonís recent comments are any indication).

$25.2m on Monday which is the most for a Monday in April.

Black Panther made $40.1m on its first Monday, but that fell on Presidents Day. TFA made $40.1m on its first Monday but that was during Winter Break. Same goes for Rogue One ($32m).

Yeah, i'm looking at the list of Mondays and I think most of these are holidays or aided by Summer/Winter, which lends some credence that there might have been an even bigger boost if it was truly summer.

Yeah, the only one that has it beat there that isn't on a Holiday or during Winter Break is Jurassic World, which was mid-summer.

Black Panther -> Presidents Day
Star Wars TFA & Rogue One -> Winter Break/Xmas
Spider-man 2 - 4th of July (observed) + Summer
Last Jedi - Xmas Day / Winter Break
Crystal Skull - Memorial Day
Jurassic World - Summer
