No stars? First... "stars" don't really sell movies anymore.

Second... Emily Blunt is a Golden Globe-winning actress who has been in plenty of mainstream and high profile movies. John Krasinski was a lead on The Office for 9 years.

It's advertised as a horror movie. Horror movies make money. The trailer was effective and people were talking about it after seeing it. Very well reviewed. And it has broad appeal.

I don't know how you couldn't have heard it about. It's been heavily advertised. I feel like this isn't the first time you've said something like this. Just because you haven't heard about something, doesn't mean it isn't popular or unexplainable.

Yeah, I think it's just safe to assume Ash isn't completely in the know as far as popular or trending movies

Where are those estimates from? Seems like Rampage would make more than that.

It's low, but China's doing well with it.

Given the budgets, it’s got to be hard for any Blumhouse film not to be a winner.

Man, Pacific Rim and Tomb Raider are dying a horrible death domestically. I enjoyed them both.

Plan to take the kid to see Isle of Dogs tomorrow.

So it’s very likely Marvel will have 2 movies in the Top 10 totaling more then a billion dollars within the next couple of weeks. Everything else will get buried except maybe A Quiet Place, which will make for more than good counter-programming.

Yeah, poor timing for Rampage, it looks like it could have had legs if it didn't get them chopped off by Disney.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

From Box Office Guru:

Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One added another $7.5M this weekend, according to estimates, bringing its total up to $126.2M after a month in theaters. Internationally it stands at $395M with an astounding $207M of that coming from China. Its worldwide total is $521M.
So it's not a flop, given its success in China and overseas, but that has to be a disappointing domestic figure for a Spielberg film designed for commercial appeal rather than Oscar bait, isn't it?

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

http://deadline.com/2018/04/avengers...ds-1202378032/

UPDATED, Friday AM with studio number: And so summer begins early in late April. Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War scored $39 million Thursday night, making it easily the best Marvel preview number ever stepping over Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M), and the fourth-best ever behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ first night ($57M), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($45M) and Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($43.5M)

Earlier forecasts last night had pegged the number as high as $45M+, with some believing Thursday could go as low as $36M-$38M. Still, its a Marvel preview night record, making Infinity War another hit for the Teflon Marvel.
I'm somewhat surprised it wasn't higher.

Judging by the current response, #4 will topple the current record for Thursday previews.
