Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

So, more or less the same with the consideration of additional showtimes?

Depends on how you look at it. There's normally a 7 pm and 9 pm showing of movies here that have a 7 pm "preview", but back in the day 10 pm and midnight showings got every theater in the house dedicated to them.

I think, overall, it isn't a drastic difference unless it's a huge event movie (ie: Harry Potter, Twilight, etc; )

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Variety meanwhile is saying $50-60M for Spider-Man.

Just a slight update, it seems they're basing this off of a $19M Friday. Problem is, the number is actually $14M.

that seems way low for Apes. it's so highly rated, got to do more...

Well, DL also says it could perform like Kong (which ultimately made $61M) and see a big increase on Saturday.

Yeah but the ads for it kind of do a shit job selling the plot.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

real shame about Apes not making more. i think it deserves to. i saw Serkis on Colbert last week and what he does is truly amazing. i wish there were some type of Oscar category he could fit into. budget was $150mil, so while it will make that and a little more, it should have been bigger (seeing Tues)...

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

I'd say the 3 bigger surprises this year have been Wonder Woman, Baby Driver and, of all films, 47 Meters Down. I honestly didn't think this would get past $10M given how many copies of the DVD are out there.

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

i guess these Apes movies do very well overseas, so this should be no exception and make it's budget back quite handsomely. i believe it will have legs too domestically. but, such a lower take from the second and the RT meter is going up. now 95%. will have to see reviews for Atomic Blonde next week to see if any competition...

Re: The Official Box Office Discussion Thread

Dawn made $502M and Rise made $305M overseas. Thinking War will fall somewhere in between, $400-450M.

Spider-man overtook War for the Planet of the Apes on Tuesday, $7.53m vs. $7.15m.

Really strong for both movies regardless.
