re: Godzilla vs. Kong (2021, D: Wingard)

From Dark Horizons:

Filmmaker Adam Wingard, out doing promotional rounds for the upcoming “Death Note” film on Netflix, has spoken a bit about his in the works next project – the big-budget “Godzilla vs. Kong” film at Warner Bros. Pictures.

He reveals to Screen Crush that his biggest goal with the film is to get people being moved and sympathetic towards the monster characters in between all the kaiju-on-kaiju action:

“It’s a massive monster brawl movie. There’s lots of monsters going crazy on each other, but at the end of the day I want there to be an emotional drive to it. I want you to be emotionally invested in them. I think that’s what’s going to make it cool…

I really want you to take those characters seriously. I want you to be emotionally invested, not just in the human characters, but actually in the monsters. If I had my way, I want people to really be teary-eyed at the end of the movie, and be that invested in to what’s going on.”

“Godzilla vs. Kong” is currently targeting a 2020 release and will follow after the “Godzilla” sequel which filmmaker Michael Dougherty is currently directing.

'Deadpool 2' Star Julian Dennison Joins 'Godzilla vs. Kong'

The breakout star of the Marvel film joins Legendary and Warner Bros.' Monsterverse film set for a May 22, 2020 release.

Julian Dennison, the breakout star of Deadpool 2, has joined the cast for the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The young actor joins a cast that includes Avengers: Infinity War star Van Marten and Crouching Tiger’s Ziyi Zhang. Adam Wingard will direct the film.

Legendary, with Warners, is in the middle of building their monster universe centered on classic silver screen creatures Godzilla and King Kong. The first installment for their Monsterverse was 2014’s Godzilla, followed by 2017's Kong: Skull Island, which grossed more than $565 million worldwide. A sequel to Godzilla, titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters, with Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown, is now in production.

Godzilla vs. Kong is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2020. Dennison is repped by Link Entertainment, Stride, Red Rocket and Jackoway.

I didn't love his character in DP2 but he was great in Wilderpeople.

I've heard Millie Bobbie Brown and Kyle Chandler are expected back, too.

Danai Gurira in Talks for 'Godzilla vs. Kong'

The 'Walking Dead' and 'Black Panther' star will be one of the film's leads.

The Walking Dead star Danai Gurira is used to fighting zombies, but she is about to face new kinds of monsters.

The actress is in early talks to star in Godzilla vs. Kong, according to sources. Details of her character are being kept under lock and key, but she will play one of the film's leading roles.

Deadpool 2's Julian Dennison is also set to star in the pic.

Legendary Entertainment's Godzilla vs. Kong will be a crossover event putting together two of the most popular movie monsters of all time. It is being directed by Death Note filmmaker Adam Wingard. The film will follow Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017) and the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is set to open May 31, 2019.

In addition to her breakout role as Michonne on AMC's Walking Dead, Gurira has starred in the two highest-grossing films of the year to date as the Wakandan general Okoye, the role that debuted in February's Black Panther and was played again in April's Avengers: Infinity War.

Godzilla vs. Kong is slated to bow May 22, 2020.

Gotta say, the MonsterVerse has been drawing in some real talent for all four of these films. A major step up from Matthew Broderick and Jack Black (who I like but he wasn't right for Denham).

re: Godzilla vs. Kong (2021, D: Wingard)

Rebecca Hall has landed one of the new leads in Legendary’s “Godzilla vs. Kong,” sources tell Variety.

Adam Wingard is directing the film, which also stars Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, “Deadpool 2” actor Julian Dennison, and “Atlanta” star Brian Tyree Henry.

Plot details are vague, but the actioner will feature the two titular classic monsters squaring off in some form. Hall’s character remains unknown at this time.

I don't know many of these names, but I see that as a good thing since G & KK are the real stars anyway.

I hope Wingard can nail this because it looks like Dougherty is going to absolutely knock it out of the park with KOTM.

I just want to know who will be the face and who will be the heel. I am hoping it's not going to be a situation where one of them is being mind controlled , except instead of aliens it's the group of radicals from KOTM.

Also, if I were going to have a geek out cameo, I would have Brie Larson's character show up except due to her aging she's played by Jessica Lange.

The studio also moved up 'Godzilla Vs. Kong'.

In a shift, Godzilla Vs. Kong has moved its release date to March 13, 2020. It previously was set for May 22, 2020. Last week, Universal shifted its untitled ninth Fast and Furious movie to May 22, 2020 — which would have set up a showdown between the two franchises. The pileup will now be avoided.

Death Note filmmaker Adam Wingard is at the helm of Godzilla Vs. Kong, which will pit the two iconic monsters against one another. Warner Bros. and Legendary began setting up this confrontation with the 2014 Godzilla reboot, and continued to lay the groundwork with 2016's Kong: Skull Island. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is due out May 31 of this year.

Smart move, although August would've worked, too.

A friend of mine heard Wingard is "having a miserable time" on this shoot.

" Death Note filmmaker Adam Wingard is at the helm of Godzilla Vs. Kong "

Basically makes me abandon all hope after the abomination bastardization that the Netflix Death Note movie was.
That was flat out the worse "anime to live-action Hollywood adaptation" ever... even being worse than the abysmal Dragon Ball Evolution.

Didn't watch either of them. Judging by the list of shows he's done on IMDB, Death Note was the only one I've seen so he's 0/1 in my book... and it really takes effort to screw up as badly as he did on that film. I mean, worse than DB Evolution? wow.

As long as neither Kong nor Godzilla says the name "Martha" during their fight this should be epic.

re: Godzilla vs. Kong (2021, D: Wingard)

Godzilla vs. Kong Possibly Delayed Till Late 2020

Godzilla vs. Kong may get delayed from its March release date to later in 2020. The upcoming MonsterVerse crossover event was actually originally supposed to release on May 22, 2020, but was moved up to March 13, presumably to avoid competition with Fast & Furious 9.

Warner Bros. studio chairman Toby Emmerich recently commented on Godzilla vs. Kong (via Deadline). According to Emmerich, the film "will deliver for fans in the way they were looking for" with Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Emmerich continues, "It might come out later in the year, so we can deliver an A+ movie." It sounds like there's a good chance Godzilla vs. Kong won't be released until late 2020.
https://screenrant.com/godzilla-vs-k...yed-late-2020/

Warner probably very worried by Godzilla: King of Monsters under-performing at the box office. Only question is, will Joss Whedon be brought in to do "re-shoots"?

re: Godzilla vs. Kong (2021, D: Wingard)

This is fairly concerning since the film is already shot, and I'm wondering: if it's actually a mess; what WB thinks will improve the film if it is or isn't.

I just want lots of kaiju action that doesn't cut away.

Vogt-Roberts didn't direct G vs. K. That's even more concerning since I thought he did a terrific job with Skull Island.
