I wouldn't consider the human part of Godzilla movies to be anything spectacular, in any of the movies. Godzilla's screentime wasn't too bad when compared to others in the series.

The humans, in Japan or America, have almost always sucked. Some reason they can't actually make good humans. Godzilla though has never been this great in a long time. The MUTOs were neat too.
Godzilla, the character, was awesome though. He had about as much screen time as he did in his first movie. And he was great in that too. Sadly... that's his best film still. Overall though? W/ Monarch, the tone, etc, the film was alright. It was a B- at most but it was a lot great stuff surrounding the presence of G that added a lot to it.

He appears on screen for a greater percentage of the film time in the original 1954 form.
To put it another way: They managed to get Godzilla on screen longer in 1954 post-WWII Japan then they could in 2014 "unlimited budget" Hollywood.

Bullshit. 2014 G was the best thing to happen to Godzilla in a long ass time. It finally made G an actual creature instead of a caricature of itself.
While the humans, as already noted, sucked... Godzilla did not. Godzilla felt epic. And don't even try to bitch about the time he was in the movie. He was in it it enough and he was full of awesome moments. Toho and Sony, separately, ran G to the ground.
Aside from some abrupt couple(?) teases of moments of G being awesome... the film totally showed off G as he is supposed to be. A threat, a literal god of destruction, an animal, and just a grand presence for scale. G was awesome in the 2014 film.
Fuck. I want to see Mothra so bad.

Other than the first film, nearly every other Godzilla film has had weak human scripting; it's an issue endemic to the series.
The best Godzilla films featured human/alien conflicts, something Legendary won't ever do but it would be a great idea. Giving the humans someone to tangle with their own size makes things more interesting. Plus, the aliens in the Showa series were always rad.

Any aliens/non humans past Astro Monster, the film, suck. The Kaiju baddies rock though. Megalon is pretty mediocre but he's alright, for the Showa era.
I really wonder how they do Mothra though. They'd have to take away the fairies. As much as it hurts me cuz I fucking love that song so much. BUT.... she'd still be badass. I hope they give us the classic twins born out of the egg, both fight Godzilla, one dies, the other goes through metamorphosis, and she fights G for a bit.
I also would like it if they made the future Kaiju used actual laser blasts. G's new blast isn't like it previously was. It was more natural based from what the visual showed. Like an actual fire breath, which is still cool.

Adam Wingard hired to direct: http://io9.gizmodo.com/godzilla-vs-k...ire-1795673601
You’ve seen Godzilla. You’ve seen Kong: Skull Island. Godzilla is coming back next year for sequel King of the Monsters, and then, finally, the two will fight. Now, a director for that epic clash has been chosen.
Adam Wingard, the director of You’re Next, The Guest, and most recently Blair Witch, has just signed to direct 2020's Godzilla vs. Kong. He’ll work from a story that was developed over the last few months in a robust writers room led by Pirates of the Caribbean writer Terry Rossio.
After exhibiting exciting style in his first several films, Wingard’s name has been a mainstay when it comes to high-profile films over the past few years. This, however, is the biggest one yet. It’s basically a monster movie version of Civil War, pitting two of the most famous beasts of all time against each other. Much like Gareth Edwards and Jordan Vogt-Roberts before him, Wingard is likely to bring a fresh, fun take to the material.
Next for Wingard is the adaptation Death Note for Netflix, which will be out in August. Then he’ll likely have to get started on this film, whose story is being kept under wraps.

I was not a big fan of "You're Next", never saw "Blair Witch", but I loved "The Guest". Nothing Wingard has done so far makes me think he's the right choice for this project but I do think he's an interesting director and this could turn out to be a good thing.

I liked You're Next and love The Guest, but agree I can't see him being a great fit for this, but odds are it'll be fun.

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this choice, but for a movie like this I think it's best to go with someone from the horror genre. If nothing else, they know the importance of pacing.
