By his own admission, this was to be a spinoff originally titled A Christmas Story and it focuses more on Statham's character.

"Screenplay by Kurt Wimmer", oh so it's COMPLETE dogshit, then?

Also, what happened to "Lady Expendables"? Did that just fall apart and they never incorporated any of that into the main series? Did Mercenaries have non-compete clauses in all the stars' contracts?

Uh... Joel... it was The ExpendaBelles... get right!

And it's dead:
"We also like working with the same people, so we did Till Death with Megan [Fox] and she's in the new Expendables. It's really just about working with talented people. But I will say something: We'd been trying to develop The ExpendaBelles, a female version of The Expendables, but my problem with that project was always trying to find a way to justify why we'd have a woman team. Instead of trying to explain that, why not just have women on the regular team and [they're] badass? Instead of having to explain why a woman character got there and all that, you just do what you'd do with a man: show them kicking ass."

I didnít care for the third one much. The cast for the new one doesnít excite me much.

Not really impressed with the cast. It seems like a Lionsgate DTV type cast.

I follow Stallone on Instagram and remember this was filmed back in 2021 during the height of the pandemic. Feels like forever it's been sitting to be released.

Re: Expend4bles (The Expendables 4) (2023, D: S. Waugh)

^ That must be why I thought this movie had already been released.

I think I saw the other Expendables movies but I donít remember a damn thing about any of them.

This entire series has been all hype and very little payoff.

Re: Expend4bles (The Expendables 4) (2023, D: S. Waugh)

The three credited writers don't inspire a lot of faith that this will be good. One is a pretty new writer, the other wrote a few episodes of TV and some straight to video crap. Kurt Wimmer has a few decent credits like The Thomas Crown Affair, Street Kings, The Recruit and Salt.

I guess we'll wait and see what the trailer looks like tomorrow. Seems like Stallone was hands off on this one creatively and it was only a minor acting role for him.

Kurt Wimmer gets a pass on Equilibrium alone. They screwed him over on Ultra Violet, though.

Re: Expend4bles (The Expendables 4) (2023, D: S. Waugh)

It doesn't look terrible, but it looks like a B action movie with special guest star Sylvester Stallone.

I looked back at the original movie and aside from Stallone and Statham, it didn't really have an amazing supporting cast. It was only with 2 and 3 when they started getting bigger names like Van Damme, Arnold, Chuck Norris, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Wesley Snipes.

But even then, most amounted to nothing more than glorified cameos.

Re: Expend4bles (The Expendables 4) (2023, D: S. Waugh)

It looks entertaining. At first, I didn't think anything of Stallone's and credit in the poster, since he tends to bill himself last in the marketing for these movies. However, based on the trailer, it looks like how now serves the Mickey Rourke role from the first movie, but with a token action sequence. So I wonder if they'll say Tool died and Barney inherited the bar.

Re: Expend4bles (The Expendables 4) (2023, D: S. Waugh)

Given the trailer, it looks like Stallone is in three scenes. Still, between the end of summer and the beginning of fall, it should do okay at theaters - they picked a good release date.

Yeah, that is true. The second had the most stars even if a lot of them were only cameos. To me the second is the most enjoyable probably for that reason honestly. Stallone, Statham, Schwarzenegger, Ford, Norris, and Willis amongst others all in one film was pretty cool.

Ford was in the third one, replacing Willis. Willis was in the first two.

Re: Expend4bles (The Expendables 4) (2023, D: S. Waugh)

It looks better than the Escape Plan sequels, but I do hate that false marketing suggesting Stallone is in this for more than 5 minutes and I despise 50 Cent as an actor. Even in Get Rich or Die Tryin he was unbelievable, playing himself. He is not only untalented, he has no charisma to balance out the fact that he can't act.

What a relief as I found the rating on IMDB.

Rated R for strong/bloody violence throughout, language and sexual material.
