Hear Hear Snake. I agree with all you have said about action movies. I too am looking forward to Shane Black returning to the Predator franchise. He is a great writer and has helped pump out some of the best action movies ever.
Hyams is a talented director going by his Uni Sol movies, so would be happy to see him take an Expendables movie on. Never watched the doc on the first movie, but I am not at work tomorrow, so that's gonna be part of my morning. 😀

I still flinch when Stallone gets tackled by Austin. We didn't know it then but Sly had a broken neck. They show it from behind the scene's angle and the look on one of the PA's faces is priceless, because it was a severe hit.

I did watch it at the weekend and after about 10 mins i realized i had already watched it before. Gave it another viewing anyway. These are the kind of things i love on Blu Rays. Many times i will watch the documentary extra on a disc before the movie as i usually have already seen the movie. Shout Factory does some great little extras on their stuff and rather partial to the Horrors Hallowed Grounds extras.

The Prometheus doc is better than Prometheus. I just love great film docs. That's it. Great film docs are just really fucking cool for me.

The fourth and final movie will now be released in 2018.
No other details other than a German company picking up the rights and saying it's the final film. Lionsgate has not officially picked up the U.S. rights. No cast members have been announced either including Stallone.
Not in the story, but a TV series is still in development, but no network has picked it up.

I like the first two a lot. The third is okay but overall not my favorite in the franchise. I wouldn't mind a fourth film if it is the final installment and they can get back some of the main players like Stallone, Statham, Schwarzenegger, etc otherwise I don't really see the point in calling it an Expendables film if they're not in it.

I enjoyed these films for what they were but I'm going to go back to some of my original comments. The premise was getting together some of the aging early action stars and make them the expendables. They've gravitated more towards the younger stars like Rousey and Hemsworth. Bring back some of those early straight to video or Hong Kong action stars for us older guys; Don Wilson, Jeff Speakman, Cynthia Rothrock. Obviously these stars have limited notoriety but these films aren't meant for a broad audience.

Nice gimmicky first movie but time to just let the franchise die.

Eh, it's probably for the best. These Expendables movies always promised a lot more than they delivered.

Arnold Schwarzenegger tells EW that he will not appear in The Expendables 4 without Sylvester Stallone, who has reportedly departed from the action sequel. “There is no Expendables without Sly,” says the Terminator star. “I would never do the movie without him, no.”
Last Friday, Stallone’s rep confirmed to EW that the actor had withdrawn from the fourth installment of the action franchise because he and Nu Image/Millennium chief Avi Lerner could not find common ground on a new director, on the script, and on certain qualitative elements of the film. In addition to playing mercenary leader Barney Ross in the Expendables series, Stallone also cowrote the first three films and directed 2010’s franchise-inaugurating The Expendables.
Schwarzenegger himself played the character of Trench in the first three Expendables films but explains that he knows few details about the proposed fourth movie in the franchise. “I have not seen the script; I don’t even know if there is a script, even though they want to shoot in August again, like they usually do,” says the actor.
Even if Stallone returns to the project, Schwarzenegger insists that he will not appear in a fourth film unless he felt that his character was properly developed, something which he believes did not happen on 2014’s The Expendables 3.
“You know, I think the first and second one were terrific,” he said. “But, the third one, I thought my part was not written well. It was also not playing well in the movie, as far as I was concerned. Maybe other people believed differently. But I didn’t believe that I had any value in the movie. I love the franchise, by the way. I think it’s a spectacular franchise, The Expendables. I think that Sly has good ideas, what he wants to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script [in] which my part is very well-developed, I would do it. If not, then I won’t do it.”

I liked all 3 movies, and really liked the premise, but started losing interest as they added in more of the younger characters. Not having any more Expendables isn't going to break my heart any.

I still haven't seen part 3, but I agree. No Sly, no sale. I doubt this moves forward as a theatrical movie, if anything, it becomes straight-to-video.

I could easily seem them going the straight-to-video route. Get some WWE, MMA, and other known C-list stars and come in at a low budget and they could start making bank on these. Release one a year until they completely kill the franchise.

IIRC, Expendables 4 is a Chinese production (or co-production) so I wonder if at this point they'll get mainly Chinese actors with one or two Westerners desperate for money (like Nicolas Cage) to round out the cast.

Or they could turn it into a western franchise:

Stallone posted these recently. Looks like it’s finally happening. Definitely not happening this year though.
