What movie has the biggest emotional effect on you!

I recently re-watched "Wit", which was not a theatrical release. I had a distant cousin that died from brain cancer. She was my age, and though I didn't know her that well, this movie always made me want to know her better. She had incredible intelligence, so much so that she could freak me out.

"Days of Heaven" also makes me think of my grandad, and what he had to go through. While he fought his way through the depression in Tennessee, and not the plains of West Texas, I'm sure it was a tough fight.

Depends on my mood of the day. When I worked as a projectionist, I would get emotional looking at the silliest movies (like the forgettable "Flipper" with Elijah Wood) just because a properly-projected, bright, focused picture is a beautiful thing.

I'll always cry when watching "Divergent" because it was the last movie to play at San Jose's Century 22 (sister theater of the one pictured on the left. Both are sitting closed, the one pictured will be saved but 22 may be demolished next summer.)

Even though AI has been on my shelf for a long time, I've been reluctant to watch it.

Y'all can laugh, but for me, it's Gravity. That movie affects me like no other before or since.

Usually documentaries about major social and political injustice where the perpetrators aren't made to answer for their actions and there is a major feeling of hopelessness. My anger usually goes off the charts for these types of films.

You have no shame with me. This movie blew me away.

No chuckles from me, either. Gravity wrecks my world every time I watch it.

Vanilla Sky always hits me very hard as well. For whatever reason, I'm not usually that torn up by stories of love lost. However,
Spoiler:
when David learns that, rather than losing the love of his life, it never even existed to begin with,
that flood of realization just punches me in the stomach.

Somewhere In Time

I have seen the movie dozens of times and still cry right at the beginning when old Elise says, "Come back to me." From there it is tears on and off until bawling at the very end.

It's ridiculous really but I can't help it. The movie has affected me the same way since the first time watching it as a kid, watching it in my teens, and now I am in my 40's. I really think John Barry's score has a lot to do with it as well.

I admit to being an easy cryer at movies (which is strange to me since I never shed a tear in real life situations) but Somewhere In Time affects me like no other movie. Can't explain it.

Before my dad died Field of Dreams was just another silly baseball movie. After my dad died Field of Dreams was an emotional movie about regrets in the relationship between father and son.

Makes me tear up every time I see it now.

A.I. The end where David goes to sleep and Teddy comes and sits on the bed. Serious lump in throat time.

Also the Grey. The scene around the camp fire where he talks of his father and then the end where he remembers his wife and again his father. I saw the movie just after my own father had died two months earlier and at the same time the girl i was dating looked just like Liam Neesons wife from the movie....but younger.

The Shawshank Redemption and the scene with Brooks.

Blade Runners end scene with Batty used to get me, but i have seen it so many times that it no longer affects me emotionally other than sheer joy at watching cinematic perfection.

I bet I have completely different emotions than you for some of those films :)

As for me, it is films that are nostalgic that create the biggest emotions.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - makes me think of my past relationships.

Amelie - That movie just makes me feel happy.

Night on Earth by Jim Jarmusch - I'm not even sure why, but I love that movie.

I have the same reaction to Spider-Man (2002). Longer story short, when my parents divorced I moved out with my dad to a new place. When we got to our new place he wanted to go see a movie, and I recommended Spider-Man. He didn't want to see that and instead we rented some movies. Much later when it came out on DVD I bought it and he still hadn't watched the movie. A year would go by and he would retire and move to Northern California, and I decided to stay in SoCA. We were saying goodbye, he hugged me and said "With great power, comes great responsibility." I was floored. He's gone now but when I sometimes wonder if my dad understood me, I think back to that moment and I smile.
