Man of Steel did alright I agree, but making money didn’t really translate to it having a good standing from reviews or audience perception. It also seems like if audiences were as into the film or the version of the character portrayed that Batman V Superman would have done better.

In Man of Steel Pa Kent dies for no good reason, and Superman kills in his first outing.
In Batman Begins, Batman has a no killing policy, but has no problem blowing up the League of Shadows and killing most of the ninjas there. He lets Ra's die because he doesn't have to save him.

I think Synder was right to give us the Phantom Zone criminals in the reboot, because after the boring Superman Returns, audiences needed a superhuman slugfest to really show off Superman's abilities.
The Giger-esque Kryptonian technology was really cool.
Casting for Faora and Zod were spot on.
The muted color scheme made the film and the character feel more serious. I prefer the Superman's suit in Man of Steel better than the brighter one in Justice League.
Henry Cavill, perfect casting.
No Lex.
I actually agree with a lot of your sentiments, and truthfully I don’t think Man of Steel is entirely awful. There’s some good ideas in it. The problem is a lot of it just poorly executed. I like a good portion of the film until it becomes an hour long slug fest filled with destruction porn.

Man of Steel had some really good moments. Justice League was underrated (not a great movie, but a good one). I haven't seen Batman VS Superman yet.

But I LOVED Cavill as Superman/Clark, and I really liked Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. They could have continued with them, and that would have made sense since they're continuing with Gadot as WW and Momoa as Aquaman. There was no reason to recast/reboot with the WW & Aquaman franchises continuing on.

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

When two major films starring two of the biggest comic characters of all time underperform and are critically panned it’s pretty easy to understand why Affleck and Cavill aren’t returning. Gadot and Momoa are carrying on because their individual films both did well enough to justify moving forward.

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

The DCMU is a wreck.

going with an older Batman was a huge mistake.

Cavill was great but those movies were dreary and dreadful.

Keep Gadot, Mamoa and Cavill. Recast Aspergers Flash, and go with Pattinson as Batman Just call it Justice League: Rebirth or some shit and just start from scratch. If you want to spin it as one of the other multiverse crap then whatever. Cut your losses, keep what works, jettison the rest. If the movie is good nobody will care.

I've seen the recent Batman hire -- he's good. He's been in more than the Twilight movies, you know.

Yes, I know, and none of them make me believe he will do well as Batman. One and done.

I have ZERO desire to see a new Superman trilogy where the first movie takes place entirely on Krypton. Superman's home planet is fine for a pre-credit sequence but - let's be honest here - has never been all that interesting. Brando couldn't make it interesting; Russell Crowe couldn't make it interesting; and the SyFy show KRYPTON has failed to make it interesting. The Kents' raising of Clark has ALWAYS made for better drama than anything on Superman's birth planet. That's why people loved Smallville.

Hell, the biggest problem with MoS was how long the intro on Krypton took. It's too long in Superman '78 too. Does anyone give a shit about Krypton other than DC?

And yet MoS somehow made the Pa/Ma Kent part one of the worst parts of the whole movie.

I would argue that the Krypton parts are worse than the Ma/Pa Kent parts.

I barely remember the Krypton parts, though. I think I'll always remember "maybe" and the hand in the air before he dies. And not in a fond way.

I can actually do without an origin story next time around.

WB has only itself to blame for the mess it's in. After the MoS disaster, instead of cutting Hack Snyder loose, they gave him TWO MORE FILMS to completely crater the DCEU franchise.

I actually didn’t mind the opening Krypton scene in Man of Steel.

Yup the whole krypton stuff was such a great addition to the movie Superman lore, was new and actually exciting.

the problem is that Snyder and WB totally dropped all of its meaning and future plot for some stupid crossover that wasn’t deserved.

It look as as if Cavill and WB are miles apart on him returning to the role of Superman. I would hate if they couldn't agree and WB recast the part of Superman.

I just assume he's done as Superman and it will be a long time, like 10 years, before we get a solo Superman movie (also that article is from 4 months ago).

Re: Man of Steel 2 - News, rumors, etc.

If they can recast and move onto a new Batman right away I'm not sure why they wouldn't do the same for Superman, unless they're really not going to go for a connected universe in the near term.

Cavill was great as Superman. Affleck was really good as Batman. So, of course DC gets rid of them.

The people running the DC movies are unwilling and unable to face the facts - that THEY screwed up the movies to one extent or another, and that their disappointing box office numbers had everything to do with the scripts, production, and direction, and nothing to do with Cavill or Affleck.

I agree with the fact that the casting was good and the plots/storylines/whatever were questionable. However from their perspective I don't see why they'd pay the money to keep actors associated with their failed franchises, regardless of who's fault it was, and assuming that they payscale escalates for every appearance. It makes sense for Marvel movies doing gangbusters, not so much for a continuity that probably needs a reboot, keeping Gadot and Momoa.
