What are some movie cliche/tropes that you like, inspite of being overdone?
I have two, the first is when the protagonist leaves for a long time and then re appears to usually reclaim something that was lost/get revenge.
(I.E. Gladiator, Four Feathers, The Count of Monte Cristo, etc)
Doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, I always like those moments when they reveal themselves.
My personal favorite:

and sad scenes when characters have to say goodbye to each other.
(Terminator 2, E.T., Treasure Planet, Toy Story 3, etc)

The ragtag bunch of losers that learn to play together to win a sports game, championship, etc. It's hard to fuck up that formula.

Millions of dollars of property damage due to a car chase.
From what I see in World's Wildest Police Chases, it's usually just a car that t-bones another car, or the car flips over in a grassy field.

A hero defeating the villain at the end has never bothered me as long as it's plausible. I hate deus ex machina solutions that save the hero from himself.

Get a small band of outlaws, prisoners, losers, misfits, mercs, psychos, unemployed samurai, whatever, and put 'em together for a mission against a larger, well-organized, military-level enemy force and wait for all hell to break loose.

A single person laying waste to hordes of bad guys, or overcoming insane odds.
Escape from New York
Die Hard
etc.

I still enjoy (and probably most people) one of the oldest cliches in the book. It's the counting time bomb, a race against the literal clock and the hero defuses the bomb or situation at the last possible second.

I prefer what you could call a happy ending or at least where the good one wins.
Oddly I don't mind a lot of deus ex machina wins too much however they can come out of nowhere. Appears to happen a bit in anime yet I always seem to enjoy it.
Villain is a thousand times stronger then the hero of the story...........they are sure to draw power from some random source and overcome this.
They might as well just yell out, DEUS EX MACHINA power activate!

Heroes defeating villains. It's pretty much a given in almost every good versus evil type film that's what will ultimately happen even if there's a partial setback that isn't resolved until a sequel or whatever but it doesn't bother me.

I read something or saw a bomb squad guy once that it is sort of a reverse cliche, in that people get on movies for having bombs with nice convenient LED timers and say it is completely unrealistic but in reality most homemade bombs are built with off the shelf timers most of which will actually have a countdown timer on them. I never get bothered by this either

I don't mind the "aha" moment when someone is doing research or a criminal investigation that type of thing.

Military drums whenever there's a scene showing tanks, soldiers or the Army.

When the good guy and bad guy trains for the final showdown and they play the song called: "Tough Enough" performed by the Fabulous Thunderbirds in the backdrop.

The Horror Film Mirror Gag. It's actually more shocking when it doesn't happen!
