That's the real story here!
Of course with Cruise getting older and older and his stunts getting bigger and bigger, it was only a matter of time until he hurt himself enough to halt production for an extended period. Cruise's "calling card" or not you gotta believe the studios will stop allowing him to do stunts that can easily be covered by a stuntman and deliberate camera angles.

McQuarrie says in this story that he's going to try to make the release date despite Cruise's injury and start editing what's shot so far while Cruise recovers.
In order to keep the release date, I will edit now instead of later. When Tom has made a full recovery, we’ll resume shooting and I’ll have that much less to fine cut on the back end. The perception seems to be that we were originally scheduled to complete the film close to the release date. While that was the case with Rogue Nation, which was completed just days before the premiere, that’s not the case here. We have the time we need and, barring the unforeseen, we remain on target for July 2018.”

Man, call Tom Cruise a wacko but I definitely cannot deny he goes all out with these movies. Some actors his age would've insisted on CGI or stunt people, but he seems to be quite determined to make sure it's really him doing all this crazy stuff.

Oh, I'm guessing the trailer will debut during the Super Bowl?? Damn. A 30-second spot costs several million. I wonder what they paid to run a 2-minute plus movie trailer?

They probably will run a 15/30 second trailer during the game and then put the full one online. They only film that will have a 90 second trailer is the NBC/Universal owned Jurassic World.

Looks like they put the "sequence" in the trailer where Cruise was injured. I wonder if they used that take or went back and refilmed it.
