I'm kind of excited about this one, comes out in a month.
Cruise needs something good besides just Mission Impossible films.

So apparently the families of the victims from the plane crash are partially blaming and/or suing Tom Cruise/production company over this.
Filming wrapped over 2 years ago on this.
I'll still see it opening weekend. Looks pretty good to me.

Curious to see how this performs at the box office. Cruise turns plenty of people off, but this looks really good.

I liked this. It's a movie thats been done plenty of times. Lord of War and War Dogs to name a couple. It has a very familiar tone to it. None the less, it was entertaining from start to finish. The fact that it was mostly true made it all the more interesting.
Also, Sarah Wright and Alice Eve were twins seperated at birth. It's uncanny.
Furthermore, all the Tom Cruise sex scenes never showed his face, always the back of the head. I wonder if it was a double and if so did he use a double because he's very very gay.

The sex scenes were a little confusing for a minute and looked like she was having an affair because he was away often.
Anyway I thought the movie was just ok.
It was about two hours I think and could have used about 15-20 minutes removed.
Felt looong.
It was funny but not side splitting funny just a few good laughs was all.
I saw it tonight with a room filled with about 60-70 over 60ish folks and maybe 5 or 6 under 50.
So I guess the older crowd is the Cruise Crowd now.
Tom’s wife was Alice Eve and she looked familiar to me but she looked different and until it I saw her name in this I just couldn’t figure out who she was.
Also the movie gave me a vibe of Scorsese light

Tom's wife was Sarah Wright, not Alice Eve.

I saw it and enjoyed it, but it wasn't nearly as good as I hoped it was going to be. Looks like it may finish No. 1 at the box office, though.
Something seemed to be missing from this film, or they didn't know what film they wanted to make. Kinda a comedy, kinda action, kinda thriller.
At least MENA finally came out after all this time.

Saw this and for the most part enjoyed it. The story has been done many times but this one was certainly intriguing. Usually Sarah Wright plays a bubbleheaded blonde on a sitcom so I think this was the first I saw her as a serious character.
This was not a comedy but Cruise, as was his character was having a hell of a lot of fun doing this.
Once it got to the end I remember hearing about this on the news. His story made national news how the government boned him by exposing who he was and made him show up to this place at the same time every day.
Had I known about the extended use of shaky cam I would have avoided this movie. It made me seasick.

Just watched this. Enjoyed it for the most part. It's an incredible story. Some of the storytelling was kinda stilted though. Scorsese-light is too kind. Maybe David O. Russell-light. It was certainly watchable and Cruise was fun -- I've always enjoyed him cocky more than sincere or heroic. Nobody plays confident/arrogant like he does. The stuff with the brother-in-law didn't work at all and I was very glad when that section was done. The ending was kind of confusing and not well constructed.
Maybe it's a movie. I've seen a lot worse.

BTW : Maybe I'm the only person who noticed this because I'm probably the only person who watched both of these works, but considering I haven't seen her in anything else, it seemed very weird that Jayma Mays was in American Made :
and in Trial & Error
playing essentially the same person.
Also, did anyone else get the feeling that Lola Kirke's part as the wife of Jesse Plemon's sheriff was a lot bigger and got cut? They introduced her like she was going ot be very important but it turned out that she had like one line.

Armond White falls just short of calling American Made a better movie than Goodfellas in his review.

I hadn’t really intended to see this but I felt like getting out of the house and this was about the only late movie playing I was interested in. Having said that I liked this quite a bit. One of Cruise’s better films in a while and the story was overall pretty interesting. I didn’t really know much about the real events the film is based on but felt like it told its story well and overall was well acted and the period setting was done well. One of the surprises of the year so far for me.

I saw this yesterday and it was alright. Not my favorite Cruise movie. True it's an incredible story about Barry Seal. I knew nothing about his story prior to this movie coming out. Crazy how that guy was just your average pilot and became one of the biggest drug smugglers in U.S. history.
The ending with how:
Worst part of the movie was definitely the stuff with his brother in law. I was glad when he was:
In some ways, I thought this was a political dark comedy. Especially how they incorporated Reagan politics and Oliver North into the storyline. It definitely had some dark humor. This genre is normally not something I would go out of my way to see, but Cruise's charisma made it watchable and worthwhile 2 hours.

I would say that this is a spoiler to anyone who wants to see this film, and does not know the full story of the person it's based on. I got spoiled regarding the end of Titanic in a similar way. It still hurts and frustrates me when looking back all these years later.
This one will hurt too.

Shit, Sorry I didn’t realize I contradicted myself with a spoiler and not spoilerizing that part about the character. And earlier saying I knew nothing about his story. Doh. I guess I just assumed a true life story isn’t really a spoilery discussion. I asked a mod to delete your quote of my post.

I didn't remember who is was about until I saw the end, then I remembered hearing the story. There was some sort of news magazine piece (maybe 60 minutes) about his adventure. There was harsh criticism of the government for making go to the same place at the same time every day.

Just watched this and it was really good. I did not know it was in the can for this long (filmed in 2015), but I guess Liman directed The Wall after this then. Australia got the Blu-ray and home video release first -- it doesn't hit the states until next month.
