Two Wrights don't make a wrong, but they do make an airplane.

They should make an Odd Couple-style sitcom starring both directors called Reed and Wright. Get it? It's a hilarious pun on "read and write."

Some Other Movies That Are Terrible Because Edgar Wright Did Not Direct Them:
  • Lawrence of Arabia
  • Godfather 1 & 3
  • Citizen Kane
  • Emmanuel in Bangkok
  • The Third Man
  • Herbie Goes Bananas
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Shaft

I was always pissed Wright didn't direct Gone With The Wind.

Just came back from a IMAX 3D press screening. The movie wasn't filmed using IMAX cameras, but the image fills up the entire IMAX screen for the whole movie. There is basically no 3D until Paul Rudd starts using the Ant-Man outfit. The last 35 minutes are worth the price of a 3D up charge. There are plenty of good laughs, especially from Michael Pena, throughout and not stupid Joss Whedon style one liners that ruined Avengers 2. The main villan wasn't anything special. The same old shit of a bad guy going mentally insane and wanting to use newly acquired technology for weapon/military purposes.

There were plenty MCU sprinkles to connect the previous Marvel movies to this one.
Spoiler:
A younger Hank Pym meeting with Peggy Carter and Howard Stark at SHIELD, Iron Man/Tony Stark name drop, quick line about events that happened at the end of Avengers 2, great action sequence at the new Avengers base where Ant-Man and Falcon fight, bad guy wanted to sell the Yellowjacket technology to a "changed" Hydra, and finally a description of Spider-Man being told to Falcon.

That's all I can remember.

Anyway, it's a funny and extremely entertaining movie. Very fun!

This is the second Marvel film to be shot in a flat aspect ratio (the first being The Avengers), which I feel might've been originally a Wright decision and not a Marvel decision. Unless a filmmaker chooses to shoot flat again, the next flat Marvel film won't be until Avengers: Infinity War.

I'm a little surprised to see it go up, usually it seems like movies start off higher and drop more. Good to hear though. Ant-Man looks like it's nothing amazing, but right in the middle of the pack reception wise compared to the other MCU movies.

For reference, compared to the other MCU entries so far (sorry for the shitty copy/paste)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...tical_response

Iron Man 93% (242 reviews)
Marvel's The Avengers 92% (301 reviews)
Guardians of the Galaxy 91% (258 reviews)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier 89% (222 reviews)
Captain America: The First Avenger 79% (222 reviews)
Iron Man 3 78% (280 reviews)
Thor 77% (264 reviews)
Ant-Man 74% (50 reviews)
Avengers: Age of Ultron 74% (265 reviews)
Iron Man 2 73% (275 reviews)
The Incredible Hulk 67% (218 reviews)
Thor: The Dark World 65% (221 reviews)

Yeah, sounds right that Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World are the worst two reviewed Marvel films.

Liked it - feather-lite though - fun and fast paced with zero stakes. Rudd is great and Douglas is fucking awesome. Not a homerun like Guardians but a nice change of pace for Marvel - lots of Wright moments sprinkled throughout that make you wonder what could have been...but Peyton Reed is serviceable and has made a movie that is easily the most kid friendly and straight forward Marvel movie in ages. Rudd has a lot of punchlines to scenes and only about 2/3 land, same with Michael Pena, I only found him funny 1/2 the time - like the MCU tie ins that don't feel like overkill and aren't too invasive. Not going to change your life but if you're looking to kill 2 hours and be entertained, this will do the trick.

Sorry to derail the thread, but what are all those yellow boxes behind him? Videogames? (Not a gamer, sorry)

Ant-Man started low and is rising because of all the Wright fanboy trolls who purposefully gave the movie a bad troll review because they're still angry over the Wright situation. All those troll reviews are out now, and now the "real" reviews are starting to come out so the score is rising.

I am not 100% positive, but I think they are boxes for Nintendo 64 games. He has a lot of Nintendo figurines too, and the Indiana Jones figure is standing on top of an old school NES. So I assume he is a huge Nintendo fan.

Loved loved loved it. A great, fun flick that understands how ridiculous the concept is but handles it deftly with some solid action and really neat usage of the tech throughout.

Rudd is perfect. Pena got a lot of laughs in our audience and I even liked Lily, who I never really liked on Lost. Douglas is also solid and the anti-aging effects they used on him at the beginning were INCREDIBLE.

Marvel's got another hit on their hands.

while I had some problems with the overly simplistic script. The movie on the whole was an utter blast. And the 3D was out of this world - the best of the Marvel films in that respect (great job Stereo D / Prime Focus). If you don't see it in 3D - you're cheap ... and if you have a proper IMAX theater near you (or one with laser) you'll have an insanely great time!

@ Lara Means: where was your advance screening. At Udvar Hazy's IMAX screen because the projected image is 1.85 - it doesn't fill the entire screen it has black borders above and below the image. For LIE-MAX screens yes it will fill the screen - but on a six story 1.43 Screen the visual intensity is dizzying and quite spectacular; the 12 channel sound is also tremendous.

Somehow they pulled this silly shit off. Riding a flying ant around the city? Sure why not! Good flick, not a top 3 for Marvel but very enjoyable.

Rudd was great and I'm ready to see him play with the big boys. Presently surprised with a cameo in the beginning.

I'm seeing this tomorrow and I don't care about spoilers. But there's an actor portraying a young Pym, on IMDB credits. Sooooo was it an effect or an actor? Or something else in the film?
