Why not? They got Del Toro to play a totally useless, throw-away part. Maybe they can Jack Nicholson to play a cantina card player or Dicaprio to voice a BB-8 type robot.

I'm not sure if I posted this in the ep 8 thread or not but at the end of the day: I am happy that I have no clue where this episode will take the story line, but I am worried that I don't think think the writers/producers don't know where this episode will take us...

Matt Smith and Keri Russell obviously playing Rey's parents.

This should be great.

Wow, Matt Smith is only 35. Seems like it's been so long since he left Doctor Who. Maybe Rey's older brother.

Ah, I remember the Sydow as Darth Ruin rumor.

He left in December 2013, so nearly 5 years ago. He was crazy young when he started Doctor Who, only 26 when cast.

Yep. He was the youngest actor ever cast as the Doctor when he started.

I'm assuming Greg Grunberg will reprise the role he had in TFA, pilot Temmin "Snap" Wexley.

Yeah, that's the character I refer to as Porkins Jr.

He's the fat X-Wing pilot for a new generation. I just thought he died in the assault on Starkiller base, though I'm probably misremembering.

Maybe it'd be too obvious for Keri to be playing Rey's mom.

Keri playing one of the Knights of Ren would be cool.

Keri playing Ahsoka Tano (in a live action debut) would be a brilliant twist.

Don’t forget Max Von Sydow as the dude that gave Poe a map.

And on that note, I remember a few years ago before TFA, there were articles out saying the dude who played Syrio Forel in GoT was cast. I didn’t remember him in it, and it looks like his role was that of a bar patron.

re: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (12/20/19, W/D: J.J. Abrams)

Just in case no one wants to know any new info about the movie, I put spoiler tags around it.

Spoiler:
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Will Pick up a Year After ‘The Last Jedi’

We’re about to be in for a year of minor news about Star Wars: Episode IX. Although director J.J. Abrams likes to keep things as secretive as possible, he also has to meet the meet the demands of the marketing machine, which means letting small items slip out in the leadup to the film’s release.

Today, we’ve got the exciting item that Episode IX will take place about a year after the events of The Last Jedi according to John Boyega in the latest issue of Empire:

This time jump makes a lot of sense when you look at where The Last Jedi left off. If that film is all about “the spark” that will lead to a rebirth of the resistance, then you can’t go right back in and see them trying to rebuild the resistance.

While that’s a good story for a comic book or a novel, a film has to jump right into the action, and it’s better for the story if the resistance is already built so it can take on the First Order.

Additionally, if Episode IX wants another way to distance itself from The Last Jedi, then it would probably be better not to copy that film in where it picks up. The Last Jedi literally includes a moment from The Force Awakens where Rey meets Luke, and now it’s time to create some spacing between stories.

Finally, it’s just more interesting to see where these characters are one year later. What’s the relationship like now between Rose and Finn? How has Kylo Ren been as a leader for the First Order? Has Rey looked at the sacred texts to improve her Jedi training?

When you move forward like this, it creates both a sense of familiarity and discovery, and I’m eager to see where these characters are when we see them again.

Star Wars: Episode IX also stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Kelly Marie Tran, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong’o, Billie Lourd, Dominic Monaghan, Matt Smith, Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie, and Keri Russell, and Joonas Suotamo and hits theaters on December 20, 2019.

Yeah, I saw that. The ST has a pretty tight time frame. Maybe there'll be another trilogy with Rey, Finn, and Poe - the XT?

Not sure why that would be a spoiler or a surprise- all the others had significant time jumps between them.

That’s how it should have been from the start:
7,8,9 should have had the old crew passing on their knowledge to the young ones and them 10,11,12 should have been the new crew taking the lead.
