It’s not like it’s a false statement though. Despite some potential promising prospects the DCEU is as I’ve said pretty much been saying since Batman V Superman, a gigantic clusterfuck. No clear direction, just half ass playing catch up to Marvel.

It's at the point now that I think the best thing for Batman and Superman movies would be if there weren't any. I see no solution under the sun that could overcome such a muddled mess of a franchise and such an oversaturated market. Obviously stopping isn't an option and they are going to bleed it until its completely dry. But its the past the point that any money will be leaving my wallet for either of these characters. Not for the forseeable future at least.

I would say, "don't make him dark", as in, he doesn't need to be dark at all. As for the '78 version, I found nothing hokey about that version. To me, "hokey" means fake, as in sickly-sweet or contrived sentimentality. Everything about that film felt genuine and sincere. Of course, I chalk much of that up to Christopher Reeve's amazing performance, and the awesome chemistry he had with Margot Kidder.

IDK, you can have some self examination in terms of his place in this world. And my definition of hokey is more old fashioned than fake. Don't get me wrong, I can still watch Superman '78 and love it, but there are elements that to me don't translate today as well.

A lot of the Luthor stuff and ALL of the Otis stuff is terrible to me.

I feel the same way about Luthor and Otis. They come off as nothing more slightly capable clowns which essentially takes away from Reeve truly coming off as a hero.

Warner Brothers will crumble.
And yes, the Luthor/Otis scenes are bad (and they tried the same thing in Superman Returns with Parker Posey which, from what I remember since I haven't watched SR in a long time, pretty cringe-worthy). But I still enjoy the movie for Reeve and Kidder.

Supposedly Matt Reeves first draft of the script was due last October.
Looks like he’s way behind schedule. Especially since there’s no news on the casting front.

There’s pretty much no way this comes out for at least a couple more years in my opinion. By the time scripting is done and they cast people and then actually get into shooting and post production I’m not expecting it for quite a while.

Earliest this comes out would be mid to late 2020. But 2021 seems more likely judging by the slog this is going through getting a script done.

We really don't know when the script was due or not. I remember reading a couple weeks back that he was turning the script in after Labor Day. So who knows, really only Matt Reeves and a select few of the higher-ups at Warner. Everything else is speculation (like that they're starting to put together a crew). Reeves himself did say maybe a Spring or early Summer production so depending on the schedule, I could see it being released November 2020 (maybe even the first weekend, same as Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman 1984).
If so, that would give Warner their (apparently) desired 3 DC movies in a year (with Birds of Prey and The Flash).

This film just seems especially quiet in my opinion. The only time we ever hear any news about it is when it’s something about Reeves still working on a draft of his script. It just feels like it’s far off to me. Not entirely a bad thing but I would like a new Batman film.
WB needs to step back and maybe realize they shouldn’t do three DC films a year until they sort their shit out. Hell even Marvel Studios didn’t go to three a year for a while.

I just don't think there's a need for there to constantly be a Batman/Superman film in development. No matter how hard they try to resuscitate this thing from life support, it's just gonna end up being something mediocre that lets down the best of the source material. Even Nolans Dark Knight trilogy while markedly superior to the DCEU wasn't the great live action adaptation of the character that everyone had been waiting for. In fact, to date there hasn't been a Batman movie that has lived up to the potential of the source material imo. The Animated Series is still hands down the best the character has ever been presented on screen. I know Warner Brothers won't miss my ticket money. But its not about that. I'm just at the point where I'm done spending my money, and more importantly my time, on something thats so abysmally sub-par.

Rumor: Ben Affleck getting back into shape to try to play Batman one more time.
https://hollywoodlife.com/2018/10/02...-out-new-body/
Ben's appearance 3 days ago:
He was recently seen and photographed at the WB lot.
But as with most of these stories, take it with a grain of salt until something official crosses.

I have my doubts. His next project I think is "The Has-Been" which is at Warner. Also, a bit early to get into "Batman" shape since production isn't supposed to be until Summer 2019, unless the studio (and Matt Reeves) are doing a swerve on us and it'll start a lot sooner.
