Good choice. He and Reeves worked together on Let Me In. And he's also currently working with Villeneuve on Dune.

EXCLUSIVE: JOHN DAVID WASHINGTON WANTED FOR ROLE IN ‘THE BATMAN’

Exclusive: Another ‘Tenet’ star may be joining ‘The Batman’.

I’m hearing director Matt Reeves is paying close attention to ‘BlackKlansman’s John David Washington for a role in the Caped Crusader’s new solo film. Character details remain under wraps but we hear that Harvey Dent is one possibility. No formal talks have begun yet.

EXCLUSIVE: GIANCARLO ESPOSITO AND JAMIE FOXX ON SHORTLIST FOR ROLE IN MATT REEVES’ ‘THE BATMAN’

Exclusive: I’ve learned a few more notable actors are in the mix for Warner Bros. and DC’s ‘The Batman.’

‘Django Unchained’ star Jamie Foxx and ‘Breaking Bad’ alum Giancarlo Esposito are on a shortlist for a major role in Matt Reeves’ first ‘Batman’ movie. Character details for the role remain under wraps, with Riddler being one possibility. It’s unknown if Reeves has met with Foxx or Esposito yet.

It feels like this movie is taking forever to come out or for any real news of substance to come out. Other than some casting choices and rumored characters showing up we haven’t seen anything really solid yet or even a tease (image or poster or something).

Hopefully the delays have been because they've been planning out a proper trilogy. (in which case I'm all for taking the extra time) Washington as Dent would be a nice throwback to Billy Dee never getting to become Two-Face...

Production is rumored to begin in January and personally, I prefer Matt Reeves (and Warner) take their time and get it right. And yes, I also wouldn't be surprised if Matt Reeves doesn't also have an outline for his trilogy, something that still stuns me Disney did not have with Star Wars... Casting JDW as Dent would be interesting.

I agree that I want it done right too and not rushed. For that I am thankful. It just feels like a long time to have been waiting for another good Batman movie. Hopefully Joker will fill a bit of that void, although I think it will do so in a different way as it's obviously very detached.

True, though maybe business-wise, good idea giving some time to build up the movie-going appetite for another Batman movie. People like us pay attention to this sort of thing, others have lives and other things to talk about.

Truth be told, I am getting excited, as a Batman fan, just waiting for some real 'in-talks' rumors rather than these 'wish list' stories (which I don't recall being done on other comic book projects before, I could be wrong).

I just can't stand the reboot thing. I tried and for certain time enjoyed some (Burton/Nolan) but really is becoming too much for me. I guess the fact I'm not a super-hero so-big fan is significant

And for a bit on this guy, he apparently put out Pattinson's name months before he was announced.

Jett on BOF also heard Brosnan was in the mix back in Feb.

I'm fine with reboots, but Warners just seems hung up on Batman and making everything "dark" in tone. Heck, even Shazam! had a bunch of dark stuff in it...I don't get it. Can't we have superheros that inspire us instead of depress us? This is probably why I love the Spider-Man films, even though THOSE are the third series of films with that character.

Exactly and DC outside of Batman always in my mind does best when it's lighter. Shazam! didn't work for me nearly as much in it's last third as it did the first two which I remember being darker.

For Alfred? I don’t exactly see that personally, but I like Brosnan and would give him a chance.

Kind of agree, never came to my mind but he could have the look and attitude for a bad ass Alfred...

He would totally work, since they keep making Alfred more and more bad ass the last few years.

It’s not that aspect. More just he doesn’t look like Alfred to me. Like I say though I’d give him a shot. I’ve always been a Brosnan fan. I wound up liking Irons portrayal more than I thought I would too and I wasn’t big on his casting at first.

That feckless manboy would only work as Alfred in a comedy spoof.

Batman should be dark though, not a single Batman graphic novel I own is light-hearted in nature.

Oh, I agree...I was just commenting on how Warners just can't get away from Batman and making almost all their other superhero movies LIKE Batman.

But I'm holding out hope for WW 1984. It's really the first TRUE DC movie (not counting Joker, which is kind of its own thing) that was fully developed after the Justice League backlash (Aquaman was already shot and Shazam! was in the middle of being filmed when JL hit theaters in 2018).

Ah I gotcha. Well personally I wish they'd abandon the Cinematic Universe attempt entirely and just do solo films as characters like Superman and Aquaman take away from what I find appealing about Batman in the first place.

re: The Batman (2022, D: Matt Reeves) S: Pattinson

I’d be open to the idea of a cinematic universe focusing on Batman and the Bat Family. You could do a lot with just Batman’s characters and make it interesting for a long time. Could work through Dick, Jason, and Tim or potentially start out with Dick already as Nightwing and Jason as Red Hood with Tim as the current Robin. Could also introduce Batgirl (most likely as Barbara, but you could progress her into Oracle and then have Stephanie or Cassandra take the Batgirl mantle). There’s a huge selection of interesting villains to have them all fight throughout various films.

I’d personally love if something like that ever happened and I find Batman works better in a team setting when it’s with his core characters instead of teamed with the Justice League. He never really fits in with the Justice League in spite of the fact that he’s been involved with them throughout various mediums for years.

I agree with this. Despite what the comics have done with the Justice League, I think Batman works better in his own self contained universe. Honestly, I think Superman works better this way too.

The Avengers work better as a team to me. The Justice League, as popular and beloved as they are, just doesn’t work quite as well.
