Wait, I thought we shouldn’t judge actors based on their previous stuff?

I think it’s one thing to use a role to be overly critical of a particular actor versus pointing out reasons other actors may not be the right fit.

In the case of Hemsworth I’d have to imagine he wouldn’t be in consideration because of how well know he is as Thor and it would be hard to shake that and would draw too many comparisons, and plus we don’t know if he may have more unannounced films with Marvel Studios.

No one is calling those two choices bad or judging them. Just giving reasons why they probably wouldn’t (and weren’t) be chosen. Different than constantly bringing up how Batman is going to sparkle..

Heh, the same could be said about Pattinson and Twilight.

But I agree, anyone who played the key heroes in the Marvel films probably wouldn't be substantially considered for DC heroes due to branding.

Villains for heroes and vice versa ... ? Maybe.

Pattinson does have an uphill battle, though, like Affleck did. Hard to deny that.

True, but if he can deliver like he has with those independent projects, and if he's good enough for Nolan, then I think he could be special. Or could be a big mistake. It's on Reeves to make a unique Batman movie since it seems the studio is leaving it up to him (and I assume, or at least hope, has final cut knowing Warner's history).

Is Pattinson a done deal? I liked him in one by Cronenberg where he was in limo whole time, but other than that he can brood, but that doesn’t translate into good acting...

EXCLUSIVE: MATT REEVES’ THE BATMAN’ TO FEATURE THE RIDDLER & FIREFLY; PENGUIN & CATWOMAN CONFIRMED

Exclusive: director Matt Reeves has four members of his Rogues Gallery for ‘The Batman’ lined up!

First up is The Riddler, likely the main villain, who will be “a criminal mastermind in Gotham City who takes delight in incorporating riddles and puzzles into his schemes, leaving them as clues for the authorities to solve.” Reeves is seeking a male actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 40.

Next up The Penguin, a “Gotham City mobster.” He is a “short, obese man with a long nose, and he uses high-tech umbrellas as weapons.” Reeves is searching for a male actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 40.

Catwoman will also be in the film, as a “Gotham City burglar” who “wears a tight one piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon.” Reeves wants an actress of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 30.

Another villain that will show up is “a professional arsonist known as the “Firefly”.” He “attempts to burn all the places that he lacked the privilege to go as an orphan child.” Reeves is searching for a male actor of any ethnicity between the ages of 20 and 30.

Firefly will be cool to see. I can see him being just a side villain who doesn’t do a lot though. My only issue with the other three is that any of them individually are strong enough to be a main villain of one film so I hope they don’t get shorted in this movie. It’s also a bit weird to me to pair up Catwoman and Penguin again.

Given this is a trilogy, could be we won't see Selina as Catwoman until the second or third movie, maybe set her up as cat burglar and potential romantic lead with Bruce. Also wouldn't surprise me if Penguin will just be referred to as Oswald Cobblepot and be a rising "star" in the underworld, again set up to be the big villain in one or both sequels.

This is just my opinion, and said it before, but this could be why Reeves has taken so long writing the script. Perhaps sprinkling in elements for Batman 2 & 3 and maybe writing rough outlines for them.

I was mildly excited for a Batman movie starring Affleck, but now?

Meh. Don't care about it either way. Maybe I'll go see it, maybe I won't. My enthusiasm has been greatly muted.

The only one I didn't see in theaters was B&R, so will be there opening weekend. Personally, interested to see Reeves' take given how many Batman movies there have been.

I mean, look at The Dark Knight. The Riddler is obviously the big bad manipulating people and bringing Gotham to its knees like The Joker. Catwoman could be a more dynamic arc like Harvey/Two Face. Penguin could be filling the organized crime role like Maroni. And Firefly could be a cameo/prologue antagonist similar to Scarecrow. Four villains on paper doesn't immediately equal a bad movie.

I think people are too focused on the old superhero formula, Reeves isn't dumb and will be trying something different. I don't see this being just a rehash of Batman Returns or Batman Forever.

Warner I'm sure is worried by your lack of enthusiasm...

Mad Hatter & Two-Face Set To Appear In ‘The Batman’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Recently, my friends at GWW recently published a news story that Firefly, Catwoman, The Penguin and The Riddler will be apart of the villain roster for ‘The Batman’ as well as detailing the casting breakdown for each character which you can see on their article (linked above).

These four villains will also be joined by another two iconic villains from Batman’s rogues gallery as I have been told that Two-Face and Mad Hatter are also planned to appear in ‘The Batman’.

They are eyeing to cast a male in their 30-40s for Two-Face and are eyeing to cast a male in their 40-50s for Mad Hatter. It should be noted also that these 6 villains are the ones that Matt Reeves currently is planning to include in the film however, similar to how Batgirl was previously in Birds of Prey and how the character was about to be cast before she was written out of the film, this could be the case for any of these villains however, as it currently stands, these 6 villains will also appear in some capacity in the film.

3 more villains and 4 more script re-writes, and I think they'll be ready to shoot.

I'm quite sure they're not, but this isn't a WB thread, it's a Batman thread, and our individual opinions are the whole point of this excercise.

He's been working on the script for a couple of years. And as the article says, those two might not even be in the script anymore.

I hold zero stock that him working on the script for the last couple of years means we’ll be getting something good. Based on these updates, it wouldn’t surprise me if WB was encouraging him to bring more bad guys. Yet another mess.
