He's going to be the villain in Birds of Prey.

ugh. Nicholas Hoult would be even worse, IMO. Give Pattinson a chance. If you can get over the Twilight hatred the guy can act.

Well, that rules him out.

Oof, what is Hoult wearing in that pic? If I didn't know who these guys were, I'd pick Pattison on looks alone. I still think Pattinson should officially get the lead. He's done great work after the Twilight films ended.

i think Pattinson is an interesting choice, his recent performances have impressed me. I kind of like his casting better than I did Affleck.

Well, the original story from Variety said that, but that a deal wasn't done. I have to wonder where the original source was. Could be a split with the studio and Reeves, one wants the other and see who tests better?

Pattinson as The Bat seems like a good choice.
I doubt I would watch though.
I'm all burnt out on Batman...plenty of movies of the character already.

Well, you've got two years to decide.

Hoult doesn’t look the part to me. I’d rather it be Pattinson.

I would agree, although with working out and some changes with the hair, could work. Would need to see publicity shots. But I do prefer Pattinson.

re: The Batman (2022, D: Matt Reeves) S: Pattinson

Warner Bros has approved Robert Pattinson as the star of The Batman, the trilogy of films that Matt Reeves will direct later this year, Deadline hears.

Pattinson has been considered a front runner because the filmmaker liked him, but the studio was torn between him and Nicholas Hoult, and wanted both of the actors on tape because this is such a big decision on a cornerstone Warner Bros DC franchise. Those meetings happened yesterday, I’m told, and the decision was made. Hoult, who starred in Tolkien and is about to reprise in X-Men: First Class, was impressive, but Pattinson will be the guy and negotiations will get underway any moment. The film is produced by Dylan Clark, who produced Reeves’ Planet of the Apes films. Expect an announcement imminently.

Pattinson is a strong choice. He certainly has been at the center of a zeitgest franchise before in Twilight Saga, and he has used the time after to show his chops as an actor. He has shown those chops in films like High Life, and is starring for Warner Bros in Christopher Nolan’s next film, and just debuted in the Robert Eggers-directed The Lighthouse at Cannes.

They’ve got to work out a deal that will clearly include options on at least two more films, but this is considered a formality in a drawn out process. Reeves’ film tracks Bruce Wayne in the formative stages of Batman, which is why they needed an actor in his early 30s.

This film will in no way carry on the work that Ben Affleck did as the older Batman in Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League.

Pattinson is repped by WME, 3 Arts and Curtis Brown.

Ha, the studio has approved him. Cause those people are the ones who make the best calls. Glittery Dark Knight here we come!

ffs. It was Reeves choice and of course the studio had to approve him, The Batman is a franchise.

Seriously asking, have you seen Pattinson's films after Twilight?

Likely was. I think they probably wanted to have another good hard look at the non-Twilight guy with superhero experience (and popularity?) before moving forward with Pattinson, just in case.

Yep, even the good ones. I'll bet you some Bat biscuits this is going to be yet another major WB misfire. Just because he's a good actor (and I think he really is), doesn't make this role something for him. Like I mentioned earlier, this is about as inspired as Leto's Joker. I'm betting they're bringing him in to entice the Twilight fans and those in that age demographic. I know, seems silly, but I can easily see WB citing that as a major reason.

I hope I'm pleasantly surprised but I don't see him in the role of Wayne/BM at all.

I think it could be the other way around: people might be drawn to seeing Edward as Batman out of morbid curiosity, like they did with Dawn of Justice. Then see it again if the movie’s good, which it very well could be considering Reeves’ and Pattinson’s talents.

Another mock-up that I really dig:

Yep, i'm out. Batman has always been my favorite superhero, but I refuse to watch a film with Pattinson in it. He will forever have the Twilight stink on him. I bet WB is hoping the females who wet their panties over him in Twilight will follow him in the Bat Franchise.

Somewhat ironic that we put down "Twilight fangirls" for following him around because of that franchise but then readily admit we don't want him as Batman because he was in that franchise.

I'll give him a chance, just please please please make a good movie.

Oh please. If he's good enough for Nolan, he'll be fine here.
