I hadn't paid much attention to box office results for a little while. I'm amazed at Jurassic World's total at this point. Wow. I really liked it, so I'm happy that it is doing so well.

I am sure Universal is glad Jurassic World is doing so well considering Ted 2 ended up being DOA.

I would assume Minions will open up to $80M+ next weekend considering Despicable Me 2 opened to $84M two years ago at this time.

I am planning to see Minions with my son sometime shortly after it comes out. I think it is going to do really well, as I know quite a few adults who are interested in seeing it as well.

Since T2, every film after grosses less and less. If they have the balls to make T6, and I pray they don't, then it'll probably end up with $50 mil US. T5 looks like it might not even make it to $90 mil US.

Minions will likely outperform projections.

I think the only way to successfully do another Terminator is to get James Cameron back. And since that isn't happening anytime soon, just let it die.

Does Germany watch T:G with German subtitles? All the Germans I know speak English well.

James Cameron is locked up doing the Avatar sequels probably for the next 5 or 6 years. The next one comes out in 2017 and the one after that probably won't be out until 2019 or 2020. Even though the rights to the series go back to him in 2019, he's unlikely to do anything with it. He may sell the rights again.

I hope word of mouth will be enough to negate the critics unjustified crapfest.

Overseas, it's doing pretty well: deadline.com - As of this morning’s overseas results, Terminator has gunned down $85.5M bringing its global take to close to $130M (the sequel’s reported cost is $155M).

Y'know, as an America who've lived abroad last 10 years or so, it REALLY annoys me how the reporting of box office figures still splits American box office and foreign box office as if it isn't all cash money. Many movies make well over half their take or more overseas now but the US media is still stuck in reporting box office as if the America take is all that matters; they'll be promoting T5 as a "flop" when if you accurately reported the ENTIRE box office take it didn't do terribly by any means, if not a huge hit.

Neither the domestic nor the international number is cash money. These are grosses, not nets. Theaters get a cut from that number. Then of course there's also the budget and marketing costs to exceed before the studio makes a cent. The studios also get bigger cut of the domestic number than they get from the international number.

I'd actually say most press talks about worldwide take pretty often and regularly now.

I think Ant-Man will squash T5 next weekend. I'd be shocked if T5 has a drop below 65%.

Ant-Man has another 2 weeks. Minions seems like the only major release for next weekend.

Re: Weekend Box Office - 4th of July Weekend, 2015 (T: Genisys, MMXXL)

I'm a Gen-X'er so I love Arnold, but as I said in another thread I don't think millenials gravitate to him. He ruled the Box Office in the 1980's to the mid 90's, but he really hasn't opened a movie since the mid 90's (Eraser?), and that is essentially when millenials hit high school and the market changed.

I think there are very few 70's/80's franchises that will be open big anymore because the Gen-X'ers like myself won't blindly go like teenagers goto the movies every weekend. The movie has to atleast get good reviews, or I'm not going to bother. I think the only review proof older franchise is Star Wars they can be any quality, and the older fans will see it.

As for Terminator itself the only way you could ever get me to see a future movie from this franchise is if Cameron came back and wrote and directed it. I atleast have faith in him that he would come up with something interesting and would develop the characters well. But at this point, what is there to tell of this story? They milk these franchises to death and sometimes there just isn't anything new to tell, so people are setting themselves up for a huge letdown.

Re: Weekend Box Office - 4th of July Weekend, 2015 (T: Genisys, MMXXL)

Arnold is just difficult to take as a bad ass of any sort, he seems like a cool guy but I think a lot of the under-30s see him as a bit of a joke, not as bad as Chuck Norris or Steven Seagall mind you, but he most certainly isn't a draw for the younger crowds - though I'm not sure if I'd count him as a deterrent as some of the others.

That said, I'm curious to see how T:G does mid-week. It should get past $100m without much of an issue, but much higher seems unlikely.

I really don't know why Jurassic World did SOOOOOOO much better than Terminator Genisys. Both are sequels to beloved franchises that are over 20 years old. Both are direct sequels to a previous installment that was absolute SHIT. Both franchises have been dormant for sometime. Both trailers were nothing special. I don't get it.

Is it because of Chris Pratt? Thats honestly the best I can come up with.

The only reason I can think of Jurassic World doing better then Terminator is there are more kids that will go see a movie about dinosaurs. I know my nephews saw Jurassic World but didn't see Terminator. They are teenagers and I don't even think they have seen any of the Terminator movies, but they saw Jurassic Park before.

I still go by any 70's/80's franchise (with the exception of Star Wars) is just not going to resonate with Millenials. Jurassic Park came out in 1993, so it was really the first Big Blockbuster that appealed to that generation (as they were still kids) where T2 in 1991 was Rated R and last appealed to Gen X-ers like myself who were in Highschool.

Dinosaurs are more appealing, while JWs trailer was nothing special, T:Gs was absolute shit. R vs PG13.

Wasn't Terminator Genysis rated PG13?
