Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

Pretty self explanatory

When big movies come out in theaters, do you read all the spoilers/key plots twists/reveals even if you haven't seen the movie yet?

And why would you do that?

Do you care that it will ruin the experience of the movie or do you not care at all?

Spoilers and all that shit don't affect me. I don't go after too many anyway. When I go into a theater all that BS just disappears and I get into the movie.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

Yes, I read spoilers. It doesn't ruin my movie experience at all. To me, the experience of a movie is the journey towards the spoiler, not really the spoiler itself. The entire movie, beginning to ending, is the experience, not just one specific point in the movie.

It's similar to how some people say they can never rewatch a movie or reread a book because they already know the spoiler or know the ending. Knowing the spoiler/ending doesn't matter to me one bit. The entire movie from A to B is the experience, not just the spoiler/ending itself. So I rewatch movies all the time because I get my enjoyment from the entire movie, not just one specific part of the movie.

yep. the journey is much more important than the knowledge of what entails it.

I intentionally read spoilers for most movies, unless it's something I'm really anticipating and know ahead of time that I really want to see it. If I'm on the fence, a spoiler will sometimes help me make a decision.

To give examples:

1) I'm glad I went into UNBREAKABLE unspoilered because that ending really had an impact.

2) I wasn't sure about ARLINGTON ROAD so I asked a friend who'd seen it to tell me the twist at the end and it sounded really intriguing to me so it made me see the film and didn't ruin it one bit.

I try not to. Usually I don't read major spoilers unless it's by accident. If somebody posts a description or clip of an after credit scene though, usually I won't be able to help myself and will look at it.

I try to avoid spoilers the best I can. Usually lack of will power causes me to click on spoiler tags anyway. I hate myself for it...

I hate knowing spoilers for movies I intend to see. The only way I'll read spoilers is if it's a movie I'm not particularly interested in seeing (and sometimes the spoilers make me more interested and I'll eventually watch it).

It depends.

If it is a shit movie I don't care about I will. Sometimes that will encourage me to see it.

Superhero movies I can read or not read it makes no difference in the enjoyment of the movie.

Horror/Mysteries/Thrillers I try to avoid.

Action and comedies don't seem to make a difference.

So yes and no.

I don't necessarily seek out spoilers but I don't let reading them spoil my whole experience of a film or show.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

Nope. I've stopped watching trailers beyond the initial teasers too for movies I really want to see. I get too hung up on what a person is wearing in a given scene because I know what's about to happen.

For me, the whole point of going to a movie is to see a story unfold. Why anyone would want to do the equivalent of reading the last page in a book first is beyond me.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

Frequently, yes. I don't like to do it. But I like to look through this forum so much.

Most recent one was True Detective Season 2.
Spoiler:
Colin's character gets blasted with a shotgun. Though I'm guessing he lives.
Would have been better to ignore the spoiler and the subsequent chatter and picture of his future episodes.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

Nope, I try to avoid them if all possible. I'll read a couple spoiler free reviews but i'll never jump into a reviews thread if I haven't seen the movie yet. Lessen's the experience for me when I know what's coming outside of what I see in a trailer.

In fact, some of my best movie experiences have been when I watched a movie based off a recommendation without even knowing what it's about beforehand. Coherence and Triangle both come to mind.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

Completely avoid them.

I even avoid some movie trailers because I know I want to see it and they tend to give away far too much.

Now I will watch a trailer for a film that is not a given because it is a new idea. I will want nothing beyond that and I hope they don't give away too much. Sometimes all I need is the most basic of trailers or what the film involves.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

For some movies (ie. Titanic; Lincoln) I deliberately avoided reading all reviews because I wanted to experience the story while not knowing what was going to happen. It made the events of the movie much more shocking to me.

However, most of the time it doesn't matter. If a movie is heavily dependent on a major plot twist in order to be worth seeing than it probably isn't that great a movie in the first place.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

I don't mind knowing the basic plot premise along with seeing the trailers and promotional material through the studio, but I try to stay away from the real indepth plot points.

It is always interesting to see how people answer this question, because I know many people who love to read the book first and then see the movie knowing pretty much what will happen. Whereas I am the opposite as I love being suprised seeing the movie, and then reading the book as that sort of fleshes out everything.

For example, I have been reading some minor spoilers about Star Wars The Force Awakens, but have stayed away from anything that gives away a huge plot point, as I want to be suprised if someone dies or turns to the darkside. Then I will read the book after I see the movie.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

I only read spoilers if its a movie I don't give much of a shit about. If its a movie I'm really excited for I sometimes won't even watch anything beyond a short teaser (i.e Episode VII).

For the new Terminator movie the trailer reveals MAJOR spoilers and it really fucking pissed me off.

I have no interest in knowing what is going to happen in a movie before I watch it.

If I don't plan on seeing it for a while I do (like Terminator G). I figure by the time I get around to seeing it, I'll have forgotten what I read anyways. Otherwise I avoid everything

Spoilers rarely spoil the movie for me. Like Snake, once I get around to watching the movie, I don't really think about what I've read.

Only accidentally. And when I do, I cruelly murder the people who wrote the spoilers (in my mind).

No. So much NO that I have not visited the Star Wars thread in many many months and only saw the trailer because it played before a movie I saw recently. I do everything I can to remain as spoiler free as possible.

Surprised you had to ask a friend since the twist was in the trailer.

Re: Do you read movie spoilers even if they will ruin major plot points/twists?

I am at the point where I really want to know as little as possible about the movie before seeing it. I generally just stick to the initial trailer and avoid as much as I can about the movie until I have the chance to see it.
