Re: Terminator: Genisys (2015) -- S: Schwarzenegger -- The Reviews Thread

The movie went from being a box office disappointment to actually being profitable now. And this still doesn't count home video, digital video on demand revenue as well. Very similar to how Pacific Rim was a bust domestically, but a hit because of it's foreign money. I think Paramount and Skydance need to re-assess a sequel though. I don't think 2 more movies are happening though. 1 more movie is their best bet to finally wrap things up for good. They're not going to risk what happened here and relying on foreign revenue to save it.

They'll probably amp up the China factor if they do another movie. Get a female Chinese superstar, partially film it there, and so on.

Solid Snake, a Forbes article notes that this is the first time an American film has failed to clear 100M domestic, yet was able to cross the 400M mark world wide (and there is still some gas left in the tank).

I certainly would not mind seeing a sequel a few years from now.

Hope it crosses $434m (WW gross of T3).

They could also figure out what they did wrong for the domestic market (bad trailers), and fix the mistakes in the upcoming installments.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (2015) -- S: Schwarzenegger -- The Reviews Thread

I finally watched this; enjoyed it, and certainly felt more in line with T1 and T2 then the previous movies. I particularly liked that the tone felt closer to Cameron's movies then T3, which just felt a little too clean to me. Arnold was great, the 1984 stuff was the most fun and interesting of the film and exactly what I hoped it would be when rumors of that plot first leaked out. The movie lost a bit of steam with the John Conner stuff, but it was still entertaining.

That said, as someone said earlier just replacing the cast with better actors for their respective roles would have made a huge difference alone. I've never really seen anything from either Jai Courtney or Jason Clarke, and hated both them quite a bit in this. I like Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones, but after Linda Hamilton she doesn't come close to that portrayal of Sarah Conner.

I haven't seen 3 and 4 in awhile; I remember liking the ending of 3 quite a bit, and wasn't too big of a fan of the obvious way this ended though.

Both T3 and T4 have $200M as the listed production budget, where as this movie only has $155M.
Are the movie studios lying, or has it become cheaper to make movies?

I don't know why people keep comparing the character. Clarke's portrayal was not that of a hardened female warrior like Hamilton's. Why? Because Clarke grew up with a Terminator guardian. She was able to have some sort of "normal" life instead of a looming doomsday prophecy at every turn. Clarke's Sarah Connor was able to chill out a bit unlike Hamilton's version after 1984.

Obviously people keep comparing the character because it's a different actress playing the same woman. Unless I missed something, I disagree that about having more of a normal life. If anything she should be even more hardened since she was aware of her future since she was a little girl instead of first encountering the Terminator at an older age. She even comments/complains about having her future planned for her.

That said, the point is even if the argument is that she's playing a different type of Sarah she's never convincing enough or strong enough to make the portrayal her own.

Yeah no, it isn't that she's an unconvincing bad ass, and it isn't excused as "It's a different Sarah Connor", she just isn't convincing in the role, nor is any of the cast really. They deliver their lines, but never sell anything that's happening around them, there's faux urgency that never seems particularly urgent or real, and they're all pretty bland.

WB didn't want to lose that huge ass take?

China was uncomfortable how they possibly appear to be gone in the apocalyptic world?

It's China, man. Too many factors to jump in.

So apparently this movie got almost 3 weeks in china with 0 competition from other Hollywood releases, after the summer Hollywood embargo. That's a sweet sweet deal. I wonder how much the deal cost.

Re: Terminator: Genisys (2015) -- S: Schwarzenegger -- The Reviews Thread

No way can Paramount/Skydance not make at least 1 more movie with that kind of dough it's pulling in. Obviously they would really be making it for the international markets, but I think we'll get at least 1 more movie to wrap up the series.

It's already surpassed the worldwide gross of Salvation and that was also considered a POS by the hardcore Terminator fans. And it's already surpassed Rise of the Machines too and we all know how people here feel about that movie.

I'd take a scaled down, R-rated film to cap it off. Haven't seen TGen yet so I'm not sure where it left off... present day?

I wish the last few were better, but I've enjoyed all the terminator movies at some level so I'm down for another.
