Film Composer James Horner Dies in Plane Crash

Breaking news. His private plane registered to him has crashed. No word yet on whether or not he was the pilot.

Plane Registered To Film Composer James Horner Crashes North Of Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA (CBSLA.com) — The pilot of a small aircraft, which is believed to have been registered to famed film composer James Horner, was killed when the plane crashed into a remote area about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara on Monday. It was not immediately clear whether or not the pilot was Horner himself. Santa Barbara County Fire responded to the call at 9:30 a.m. and found a debris field that marked what was remained of the aircraft after the crash. No survivors were found. The plane crashed near a Cuyama Valley community called Ventucopa, near Route 33 at the border between Ventura and Kern counties.
The crash sparked a one-acre brush fire. The FAA issued an alert notice for a single-engine S-312 Tucano MK-1. It was not clear if mechanical failure may have been responsible for the crash, but circumstances surrounding the event were under investigation Monday. Horner is among Hollywood’s most well-known and respected film composers, composing the scores for films including ‘Titanic’, ‘Braveheart’, ‘Glory’, and ‘Legends of the Fall’.
Horner’s representatives have not commented on the issue, apart from stating that a tail number was all that was found at the site thus far. An investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board was at the scene of the crash on Monday evening.

Re: James Horner dead?

So many good scores. Has to be top ten by default. Sneakers, Glory, A Beautiful Mind, Aliens are as good as it gets for me.

Definitely need to see Southpaw and The 33 now.

Re: James Horner dead?

Tragic news. This really stings.

Was my third favorite composer after John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith.

He may be gone, but his music will live on forever

RIP Mr. Horner

Re: Film Composer James Horner Dies in Plane Crash

This is horrible news. I just just thinking the other day how sad I'll be when John Williams finally goes. James Horner was right behind Williams as my favorite composer.

RIP

I still listen to the soundtrack for Legends of the Fall on a regular basis. What a loss of a great and talented man.
