This is a real movie? I thought it was a parody clip or something.

I feel like there was a previous thread about this. Looks good. I don't remember seeing the violence in the previous trailer. And the previous trailer might have been a 'proof of concept'.

Re: Turbokid (s: Michael Ironside)

Those who haven’t managed to catch it on the festival circuit this spring and summer will have the chance to do so on VOD and in select theaters a little over two months from now on August 28th.
“In a post-apocalyptic future, The Kid (Munro Chambers), an orphaned outcast, meets a mysterious girl (Laurence Leboeuf). They become friends until Zeus (Michael Ironside), the sadistic leader of the Wasteland, kidnaps her. The Kid must face his fears, and journey to rid the Wasteland of evil and save the girl.”

Re: Turbokid (s: Michael Ironside)

So anyone catch this yet?
This was such an awesome movie. I could only wish more of these types of movies would be made.
I dont think there was a single moment that thought could have been omitted. I had fun the entire time.
Great story. FUN story. For me, every character was likable. I would love to see a sequel.

The Director must be a fan of 'Rad' as the opening music is 'Thunder in Your Heart' along with, of course, BMX!

Re: Turbokid (s: Michael Ironside)

Watched this for free on Amazon Prime tonight.

Loved it.

This is one of those retro-vibe films that manages to play things right without veering right off into parody. It's self-aware, but not so much that it forgets the first rule it to be awesome and not play up nostalgia to a nauseating degree, nor to get so outrageous that it feels like a cheap pastiche.

I felt all of the actors did a fine job in their roles. Nobody was slacking here. Ironside made for a great villain. The lead kid was perfectly cast. The girl who played Apple nailed it.

Loved the costume design and production design. It's definitely Mad-Max-meets-Rad.

So. Much. Blood. Limbs and guts, everywhere. The gore reminded me of "Hobo with a Shotgun", only this film is far more watchable.

The film straddles that fine line of being a good movie in its own right and resting too heavily on '80s kid getting a retro-boner. But it worked, damnit.

^^
That's the best review yet of this movie. It's far from perfect, but frankly I'll take it over Kung Fury when it comes to 80s retro-anything.

Re: Turbokid (s: Michael Ironside)

Yeah, the main difference it seems is Turbo Kid tried to be an actual movie. It reminded me a bit of Six String Samurai but was more enjoyable and nowhere near as annoying.

Jason Eisner (who wrote/directed Hobo With A Shotgun) was one of the Executive Producers of this film.

I still need to see this. I want to see it in a theater but the only theater showing it around here doesn't screen the film all day

Watched this tonight and loved it, one of my favorites of the year. Dug the characters, the music, and the practical gore. Michael Ironside always kills as a villain.

I'll pick this up when it hits blu.

If you like the music, then give a listen here. I never knew of this band until Turbo Kid and now I'm hooked.

Re: Turbokid (s: Michael Ironside)

This is probably a bit out of date now, but the CBC radio program 'Q' had a decent interview with Michael Ironside (approx. 15 min) back in mid-August, around the time this film was first getting buzz. He actually spins some interesting tales about his work in other horror films like Scanners and, in particular, Visiting Hours.

Great option for those of you who are not Region Free!

It is available through Amazon (US) via Third Party Sellers (including the Distributor) and Amazon (CA):

The shipping for the pre-order that I posted is quite high. Shipping in the States (in my situation California) is $8.50 + Tax.

$29.99 total. I think I paid a little less than that for the Canadian Steelbook I ordered.
