Ooh a fancy review thread.

To recap...Great movie. Kids were fine, CG was better than fine. Pratt & Howard's performances were fine, didn't notice blue tinting... pretty much everything the opposite of the bitching about the trailers for me.

Loved it. Bring on the sequel.

He was busy. Asked someone else to do it. To make it the way he does it is actually a lot of work for getting it that way.

Yep. I totally screwed the pooch on the voting options, I'm actually kind of surprised there are absolutely no editing options for those.

Groucho 06-15-15 08:05 AM

I can't even edit polls, I think an admin has to do it. 😕

......should we just pay Oldboy a small minimal as fuck fee for review threads? LIke maybe a coupon for Whataburger for each review thread he makes?

At least the .GIF image filenames in the poll tells how many stars each one is at the end of the line.

Much like the previous sequels took unused action scenes from Michael Crichton's novels Jurassic Park and The Lost World and depicted them in a slightly revised way, Jurassic World also has a scene based on an unused scene from Crichton's TLW novel...

Spoiler:

When Chris Pratt's Owen hid under a vehicle and all we could see was the dinosaur's feet as it was sniffing around was like a scene in TLW novel when the character Sarah (who was played in the movie version by Julianne Moore) hid from a T-Rex under an SUV. (Someone else in the novel also tried to hide with her in a similar way but let's say he didn't quite make it.)

However, the part where Owen used gasoline to mask his scent was new. That wouldn't have been possible in TLW novel because the vehicle was all electric.

^^ Owen used oil... and it would have been possible for electric cars.

Looked like gas to me. Oil would have dirtied him up way more than he was.

Here goes my review of Jurassic World - this was as close to the original Jurassic Park in spirit and intent as you could get without Steven Spielberg directing it himself. From the Amblin' Entertainment logo at the beginning, to a nice nod to Ray Harryhausen's dinosaurs (via a quick Viewmaster picture), to the actual revisiting of locations and props from the first JP, to the return of the original DNA-splicing doc (and Mr. DNA!), this was a terrific walk down memory lane, while updating and expanding the prehistoric theme park idea and beyond.

Chris Pratt, this generation's Harrison Ford, brings the snarky rogue we loved in Guardians of the Galaxy to Jurassic World, and definitely plan on seeing more of him in the sequels that WILL be happening. His interactions with his raptor pack are fun to watch, and he has a playful chemistry with Bryce Dallas Howard, the movie's uptight absentee mom stand-in for two boys who are destined to get into and out of trouble throughout the movie. There are a couple of scenes between the boys that are intended to be heart-felt but come off forced, and the older boy is unnecessarily portrayed as a jerk.

But the humans in Jurassic World are not the main reason we go to see anything with Jurassic in the title. It's the dinosaurs, and boy, oh, boy, do we get dinosaurs. Old favorites are back, in familiar and new situations, new dinos are introduced (including the aquatic creature featured in the trailers, and the dino bad guy - trust me, there are human bad guys as well.). The raptor pack in action brought a lot of unexpected surprises, and the final battles over the last 25-30 minutes had me on the edge of my seat and grinning ear to ear.

Due to teeth and claws, there is a bit of violence, though not nearly as much blood shown as I was expecting. There's some off-camera crunching in a few scenes, and a hunting attack told mostly through night vision monitors.

And before I forget, there is humor and a few actual LOL moments sprinkled though out the film.

Overall, this latest addition to the Jurassic series is worth all the hype and the bucks it's getting, and it will definitely join my Bluray collection. It ranks just behind the first movie, and way ahead of the other two sequels. I may even go see it again, perhaps in 3D. I give Jurassic World 5/5 on the dinosaurs alone, but a 4/5 as a whole.

Liked it . What we say doesn't matter at this time. It's already a massive hit.

What we say never matters, but we say it anyway just to amuse ourselves ;).

Did anyone see it in 3D? If so how good were the 3D effects?

I saw it in IMAX 3D. There were some nice effects, particularly the talon that came through the gyrocar window.

Re: Jurassic World (Trevorrow, 2015) — The Reviews Thread

I'd give it a solid B. Maybe B+.

My biggest problems with the movie mostly lie with the first act. I didn't like how the movie started. Instead of showing the kids getting ready and spending time with that family, they should have started the film following BDH around and showing the inner workings of the park. Just have her on the phone with her sister acknowledging the arrival of her nephews. Easy, simple, done (like the way Tim and Lex are introduced.).

Also, the older kid being a wet blanket in the beginning is a total downer. The kids are the audience's eyes. We don't want to see him texting and checking out girls, we want to see the younger one riding dinosaurs and experiencing the park. This gets a little better after they get splashed and he loosens up, and with the off-roading hamster ball.

Overall I enjoyed it, but felt there could have been some easy improvements. I wanted to see more of the park just working.
