STARMAN remake in the works!

What's next, Memoirs of an Invisible Man?

Remake Of Classic Sci-Fi Romance “Starman” In The Works From Sony

Sony and Columbia Pictures are developing a remake of the 1984 sci-fi/romance STARMAN. Sources confirm that the studio is taking the remake in a new direction, more in line tonally with the hit teen drama The Fault In Our Stars. Adam North will oversee development for the studio, while Michael Douglas, who produced the original, will produce under his Further Films banner.

Re: STARMAN remake in the works!

In the original, Charles Martin Smith's character was clearly based on Carl Sagan. Maybe this time someone can play a stand-in for Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

John Carpenter is just cashing those "remake" checks in this week.

Pretty soon Carpenter is going to have to start licensing out his home videos to be remade.

I don't think Carpenter gets anything.

Does he even own the rights to any of his films?

Sony owns Starman.
Fox owns BTILC.
Malek Akkad (Moustapha's son) owns Halloween.
etc.............

Re: STARMAN remake in the works!

Why not a sequel? Find out where Starman is at then make a story around that.

Because a remake means you can cast someone much younger than 65? It's not as if this is aimed at fans of the original.

They should have Starman meet the Brother from Another Planet.

As far as I know, he has certain rights to The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13th (hence the remakes that Carpenter openly admitted to being behind)

And no more remakes please. I'm still pissed about Point Break.

So apparently It Follows is the best movie John Carpenter never made.

Emma Stone would be perfect for that role.

Re: STARMAN remake in the works!

Why not Starman meets the Big Lebowski? Hell, they already fought a bunch of nihilist so why not have Lebowski and Walter run into the Starman. Bridges could reprise both roles and it would be a hell of a mashup.
