If the movie ended a few minutes earlier than it did, that's the impression I would've gotten. But at the very end, we get ...
Spoiler:
the reunion with the girl, an embrace, a vow to turn things around, and swelling hopeful music as we cut to end credits. I suppose a pessimistic viewer could see the guy still being doomed, but it seemed to me pretty clear the movie wanted to leave viewers with hope. And reading up on things, this bit at the end was added by the filmmakers to the plot of the book (whose ending did give the impression the guy had no hope and was doomed to be a geek for the rest of his life).

Finished them. Even though TWBM was the most noirish of the three, I liked Woman/Beach the most. I only liked "Mask" just for the Lorre/Greenstreet scenes. Those guys made for one of the most unique cinematic duos ever.

Another good day today:
Where Danger Lives (Already came on, but it might pop up on-demand)
Strangers on a Train (My 3rd favorite Hitch movie)
Conflict (Villainous Bogie is always fun)
99 River Street (I never get tired of pimping this one)

Recording:
Woman On Pier 13
Too Late for Tears

Caught up on:
The Bribe
The Threat
The Blue Dahlia

While "Dahlia" was more complex, "Threat" was the one that won me over. Loved Charles MacGraw's "Take-a-bite-out-of-crime" voice.
