Boiler Room vs The Wolf of Wall Street
I watched Boiler Room for the first time tonight. Figured it can't be a coincidence of how similar it is to The Wolf of Wall Street, so I looked it up and it's also inspired by Jordan Belfort's story (Whereas WoWS is a direct adaptation of Belfort's autobiography).
Anyway, I liked Boiler Room, but still prefer The Wolf of Wall Street. By a wide margin too.
Anyone like Boiler Room better?

Boiler Room is great stuff... but WoW has Margot Robbie. I'd call it a tie.

Re: Boiler Room vs The Wolf of Wall Street
Both were good, I liked WoWS better.
I used to work in a "boiler room". First job out of college. I was a wide eyed 22 year old and after months of searching for a job, I landed as a "stock broker". I use that in quotes because my entire job was cold calling for 14 hours a day. Work started at 7. We'd get 15 minutes for lunch. We'd break for dinner at 5. Be back in the office by 6 and work till 10. Then on Saturdays I'd get in at 9 and work till 1. You weren't allowed to breathe at that place. If you weren't on the phone, you were dialing. If you weren't doing either, you were getting an earful from a manager.
I was there 2 weeks. The people that worked there were among the worst people I've ever been around. They had no problem reading a script full of lies to people over the phone and hope that one out of every 10,000 is stupid enough to buy stock over the phone in 2007.
The place where I worked is shut down now. Their business practices were shady but not illegal so I don't think they got shut down by some authority. They probably just weren't making any money because no one buys stock over the phone anymore. I got my licenses there and need to declare to every potential employer that I worked at a place like that and that I was only there for a few weeks because it doesn't look like a "clean" place.

I liked Wolf of Wall Street, and it does have Margo Robbie so that bumps it up quite a bit. However I LOVE Boiler Room. It's a movie I can watch over and over and never get tired of. One of my all time favorites.

WoWS is a better made film but BR is more enjoyable to watch, IMO. I keep it on whenever I see it on TV.

Wow, guess I'll have to check out Boiler Room. I'm a sucker for stock market movies, but for some reason I thought that one didn't rate well so I never watched it. I think as the poster above said, the cover looked so generic it did nothing for me.

I think the critical consensus is the ending is a bit too Hollywood, the rest of the movie is quite fun.
