Blumhouse's The Craft: Legacy (2020, D: Zoe Lister-Jones)
via movieweb.com:
Witches have been regaining their popularity on the big and small screen alike, with shows like American Horror Story: Coven and Salem drawing in big ratings and movies like Witching and Bitching and The Lords of Salem growing strong cult followings. Sony Pictures is ready to expand the playing field, hoping to cash in on this new found interest in the age-old genre. The studio is planning a remake of their own 1996 witch movie, The Craft. This new version will be helmed by up and coming horror director Leigh Janiak, who is also writing the screenplay.
Leigh Janiak will actually co-write the script with Phil Graziadei, the co-writer on her debut thriller Honeymoon. But it's not all new blood, as original producer Doug Wick will be back to once again produce, this time alongside newcomer Lucy Fisher. The original teen supernatural thriller starred Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True as a group of young witches at a Catholic school. Using their magic powers to fix their own personal problems, they soon discover that dark forces can be dangerous and have deadly consequences.
Leigh Janiak debuted Honeymoon at last year's SXSW film festival to much acclaim. The film was promptly picked up by Magnolia Pictures. She went onto follow that up by directing an episode of MTV's new Scream TV series, based on the classic horror movie franchise. Her plans for have not been revealed, and it isn't known how much it will deviate from the original story. Fingers crossed it will feature a Skeet Ulrich cameo!
The Craft comes to theaters in 2017.

What ever happened to Fairuza Balk?

Still acting. Apparently she's gonna be in a series called Ray Donovan.

20 years for a remake sounds almost right, it just sucks that it's already that far back for the 90s.
I really enjoyed the original The Craft, I probably shouldn't have but I always thought it was fun.

That was my first thought as well. It got lots of praise, but this is the first time I heard it has a following.
I just recently watched The Craft on Blu-ray (could use a fresh new scan/remaster). The movie still holds up pretty well. Christine Taylor's line why she dislikes Rachel True's character is still quite the jaw dropper.

It's always had a following. Particularly among women. Heck, I've met women that were born around the time of its theatrical release, caught it on DVD many years later, and were hooked ever since.

This remake will be a Sony release. In keeping with their latest remake announcements, I hope they remake it with an all male cast.

Funny enough, they did just that a decade ago, they just released it under their Screen Gems banner.

That actually is a movie that needs a remake, IMHO. My impression of it was that everyone looked like they were about to fall asleep.

This was one of the first movies issued on DVD- I have it in the old jewel case package. They should package the remake the same way.

Speaking of Fairuza Balk, if anyone here is a Sopranos fan she was actually in one episode, in one scene of the show which was reshot with a different actress after the episode had first aired. She played Adrianna's friend who was an undercover FBI agent. Being a huge fan of the show, I've tried finding this scene with no success.

I thought it was on the DVD as an extra. But maybe I'm just remembering that the first time I watched was taped off tv.
