Exactly. A separate scene or reshooting scenes or just adding new stuff altogether. Yes, it was essentially done. The original release was April 13 of this year.

Wow, it has now been pushed back16 months. That has to be some sort of a record for a tent pole/franchise project (perhaps excluding Mad Max Fury Road). There must be some major issues with the film -- well, either that or issues causing them to push back Dark Phoenix and a desire to space out their two X-Men movies a full six months apart (but is three months is good enough for MCU, you'd think it would be good enough for Fox's X-Men franchise as well).

I'm curious if Fox is trying to get in front of any potential revival of the scandal involving Singer in regards to Dark Phoenix (Rhapsody was probably never going to be the kind of blockbuster that an X-film would, and I doubt they're moving it up because they expect a massive hit). He's been off the radar for a while now it seems -- and probably deserves to stay there. Assuming the two X films are connected in some way, any controversy that hurts Dark Phoenix might in turn hurt New Mutants, even though he has no connection to the latter. Pure speculation, of course, but these moves are odd . . .

Does Singer have any connection to the X-Men films now? I guess maybe an Executive Producer credit.

Exclusive: Here’s Why ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ and ‘The New Mutants’ Were Delayed
http://collider.com/x-men-dark-phoen...lay-explained/
I just highlighted the part about New Mutants, the delay on Dark Phoenix, based on the article, was more about the scheduling with an A-list cast.
New Mutants is a different matter, however. When the film was initially delayed, it was reported that Fox wanted to do some reshoots to make the movie scarier, even going so far as to add a new character. That still holds true, and while we hear the film tested well, it’s not “scary” enough. Director Josh Boone delivered a cut of the film that he was happy with, but Fox wants this movie to stand out as tonally distinct the same way Logan and Deadpool did.
The reshoots that the studio wants are now even more significant. We’re hearing that at least 50% of the movie may be reshot, and they’re adding one or two new characters who will be present throughout the entirety of the film—this isn’t simply adding a cameo. Moreover, Boone has been having some creative differences with the studio over the requested changes to the movie, so the reasons for the New Mutants delay are more complex than why Dark Phoenix is being pushed.

At least if the reshoots are that extensive they have plenty of time between now and release date and don’t have to scramble to get the film done last minute. Still not terribly interested in the film but we’ll see how it turns out.

Yikes. Sounds like they are going to over-tinker.

Doesn't matter to me. This would never have been a theatrical release for me anyway. Same with the other delayed one.

I guess Arya and Sansa will never meet in this universe.

If it’s not because of the Disney acquisition then it is a stupid move. They should have just released this as it was conceived and did the sequel however the studio wanted to. It’s not like it was a super expensive movie.

Considering Disney hasn’t acquired anything, that isn’t the reason.

Idk it could be a form of book-cooking as they now need more characters and visual effects for projects that got the green light.

Long article on the drama going on behind the scenes, but quoted the interesting part:
http://www.tracking-board.com/inside...ber-exclusive/
Meanwhile, remember the Essex Corporation that was teased at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse? Well not only was New Mutants going to feature that mysterious company, but The Tracking Board has learned that Jon Hamm was originally going to appear as Mr. Sinister in a tag at the end of New Mutants, and Boone filmed material that led up to that reveal, only for Fox to change their minds after shooting had been completed. Now it’ll be Antonio Banderas playing an unspecified villain (one who isn’t expected to be Mr. Sinister) in the New Mutants tag. Additionally, Mr. Sinister wasn’t the only character Fox steered away from New Mutants, as Warlock appeared in early drafts of the script before the character was deemed too expensive.
