I like that Fox is actually experimenting within the comic book genre, its absolutely necessary when every movie is exactly the same.

Looks like it could be set in Legion show universe.

Just trying to think how this will connect (or not) to the rest of the X-Universe. I would think that the person least affected by any of the horror shit would be Magik and that this world would be because of her or her connection to Belasco?
Dunno.

That was... something. I like the idea of exploring comic book/superhero universes and showing different types of movies within them. People love to complain about formula but then get really pissed when movies try something different.
That said, as a horror movie, it looked kind of average. Did the screenwriter get paid by the jump scare?

Well, because comicbook superhero movies are a genre in and of itself, I'm not sure there is much call for moving a superhero movie into another genre. I mean there are properties where it can work, and heck if this was just a Magik movie it might make more sense, but why attach the New Mutants name to this at all. We'll see though.
And I was so excited about them keeping the original New Mutant cast. I realize the Demon Bear storyline is supposedly what they were adapting and certainly Claremont and Sienkiewicz’s rendition was haunting but this looks like an escape from an asylum movie.

That's about what I was thinking. They straight up do the face coming through the wall thing like in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. This looks like a bad horror movie at this point. I'm all for incorporating different genre elements into superhero films but this just doesn't look good from the first trailer. If not for the Marvel banner I don't think any casual fan would know it's supposed to be based on an X-Men property.

Wait, so these are the kids that Cable will lead into the future X-Force team? At least some, right? Well, they're fucking it all up.
Looks fine as a standard low budget horror film, but I was not impressed with the trailer. Incongruent as all hell.

Even as low budget horror it looks bad. If I was judging it as that I'd say it looks pretty generic.

I never had high hopes for this when I read about the horror genre, but thought, hey, maybe something different would be a good thing. But this trailer ended up even worse than I expected. It looks like 1 of the 100 movies that comes out every Halloween.
The line about the baby rattlesnakes was good, and very true to the concept of mutants discovering their powers. But again, the "feel" of that trailer is just so bleh.
They should have at least shown an inkling of each person's power to tie in the X-Men universe portion of it - all we get is the person in the laundry machine - I'm guessing sunspot?
Maybe trailer #2 will be better...

I asked awhile ago when this was announced about whether The New Mutants comics had that many horror elements other then Limbo, because I don't recall that much from their portions of the crossover stories I read. I never read much of the individual run though outside of those major X-Men stories.

I never really read them either so I'm not sure. From reading about them online it doesn't exactly sound like it. It seems like there may have been some scary elements to some of their stories but it doesn't sound like it was true horror.

They also had a lot of dark storylines, like Karma getting possessed and becoming super fat, magma coming from this brainwashed city, the mutant massacre, etc. But yeah never straight horror. In fact I tend to think the Generation X lineup lends itself better to a horror movie.
I highly highly doubt they turn these guys into X Force.

Yeah, probably not.
The original X-Force from the early 90s was just a continuation of New Mutants, especially the direction they were taking after Cable turned up. I think the primary reason for the change in the title was so Marvel could put an "X" in the title.
The current incarnation of X-Force is just another X-Men team with a black ops bent.
If Fox makes an X-Force movie, I fully expect it to be a black-ops team with no connection to New Mutants, other than, possibly, using one of the characters.

Is Boom Boom in this? The classic lineup was Moonstar, Cannonball, Karma(who disappears early on), Sunspot, and Wolfsbane, and I think they're including Magik in this, though she joined later.
